Which will make more money? And which film will be better? Can this film outdo ROTS in 2005?
Check out the new trailer at http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/king_kong/

I don't think "King Kong" will make more money than ROTS.

Better? I don't know. ROTS isn't exactly the pinnacle of film-making or acting... But Kong has been getting rave reviews from people who've seen special advanced screenings.

Interesting factoid(s): Kong was budgeted at $175 million. It cost $205 million to make, so Jackson forked over the extra $30 mil because he's super cool. Also, it's running at, either, three hours or a tad over. Either way it's bound to be good.

But then again, ROTS and Kong are both two totally different films appealing to somewhat different audiences.

Well, I think this movie appeals to the same people as ROTS. A big fantasy adventure. It's going to be interesting to see how this pans out.

What is this King Kong? Wasn't this made years ago? And it was black and white also... if I remember. I can't imagine it made as much as ROTS considering it was made before the hight of cinema.

Seriously though, I couldn't give two craps about Peter Jackson and his Oscar inhaling movies...

Give me Dead Alive or Meet the Feebles any day over LOTR and Giant monkeys...

Back on topic, I didn't know he was making another take on King Kong, but I have to agree with others...ROTS owns![face_money_eyes] :D

I dont really care if i see the monkey on dvd lol it's just never been a movie that has amazed me .. i had Star Wars for that, so maybe i'm not objective :p

As much as i enjoyed LOTR and i think Peter Jackson is great, this one doesnt appeal to me at all.

ROTS will surely make more money than Kong. It's by far the most profitable movie so far this year and if Madagascar etc. can't beat it then surely King Kong doesn't stand a chance!

As for which of them is the best movie it's really not a question. ROTS is a thousand times better than Kong could ever hope to be! Some people think that just because Peter Jackson is doing the remake then it's LOTR all over again! It's not! King Kong isn't gonna be as good as LOTR...forget it! :)

I think Kong has much better box office potential than Madagascar.

i think the money thing will be pretty even. kong is hurt by its long running time.

as for the better film, going by the director's resume over the past 10 years, Kong should easily be better.

    ROTS easily.

It would be a closer call in different circumstances I think, but King Kong and Narnia are going to be in more direct competition than ROTS was with any films in its time slot.

This is blasphemy against Star Wars! Saying that Kong is easily going to be a better movie than ROTS!!?? Kong is just another remake of an old Hollywood B-movie (compare it to Godzilla from 1998 instead!) with an outdated plot that won't work today! Having Peter Jackson directing it isn't gonna change that. It's not gonna be anything like Lord of the Rings just because it's Jackson making it! (If it was George Lucas remaking Kong I wouldn't expect a Star Wars movie!)

Yeah King Kong will in no way shape or form be better than ROTS, or any other star wars movies. I really don't like Peter Jacksons work to much either.

Your fandom has blinded you to the truth.

    Kong is king.

As for Kong not being able to beat Star Wars, based on the writing of the PT and Walsh's work in LotR, Kong should crush Vader (and his fist). The actors in Kong have been shown to perform well, while Christensen's and Portman's acting left much to be desired.

Jackson will not disappoint. Watch the post production diaries at

I did'nt like any of the other king kong films and I don;t like Peter Jackson's directing LOTR sucked. Its just another remake.

You have blasphemed The Lord of the Rings. You have earned my eternal and undying enmity.

    LotR rules.

    Now, to counter you.

Just because you didn't like the other Kongs doesn't mean this one will suck. You make unfounded presumptions based on preconceived prejudices.

So what if it's another remake? At least we can revisualize an older story instead of watching a crappy new one that's not even worth a remake. You like creativity? Then stop watching the PT.

The directing in LotR was far superior to that in RotS. Watch the post-pro diaries. You will change your mind.

Strilo edit: This post and several previous posts of yours are unacceptable. Discuss the films, not the fans. Also we don't need a cheerleader for either LOTR or King Kong. Back off a little.

aww Im srry if I hurt your feelings.

But LOTR definatly sucked. Remakes are the smae thing just newer thers no reason to go see it, if I did'nt like the first one why would I like the remake. The PT is by far Superior than LOTR trilogy.

What sucked about it? And how are cliche lines better than words taken right from antiquity?

Remakes are intended to retell an old story for a newer audience. If you're put off by it, whatever. Just do not make baseless accusations about a classic.
