There is a jar at work filled with Mike and Ike candies. The circumference of the jar is 13.25 inches. The height that the candy is filled to in the jar is 4.5 inches. I calculated that the volume of the jar is 62.94 cubic inches.

Anyone know the volume of one piece of Mike and Ike candy? Once I have that, then I can divide the volume of the jar by the volume of 1 piece of Mike and Ike candy and get the total number of Mike and Ikes in the jar and win the jar of candy! Thanks for the help!

I'll post the actual answer at the end of the week when I'm told the answer.

P.S. The closest guess without going over wins, so I can't go over!

There's going to be a lot of air in the jar, too, so just dividing the volume of the jar by the volume of a single mike and ike won't be exactly right. My advice would be to buy a box or two of them, count then, then see how much space that takes up. Then you can do the math and have a closer estimate. Also, when you calculate the volume of the jar, you have to take into account any rounded bottoms or tops -- its probably not a straight cylinder.

My name is Mike, and I weigh in at 185lbs. That doesn't really help you, though. Sorry! Hope you win!

why would you need a picture? he provided you with the relevant information with regards to working it out mathematically.

What do you win if you guess correctly?

(Please don't say the jar of candy... new Rolls, anything.)

That's it. All you win is the jar of candy?

    Still... good candy.

The winner gets the jar of candy and a gift card.

If anyone can give me the height and radius or diameter of one Mike and Ike candy, that would be a great help!

Just so we're on the same page, we're talking plain, old-fashioned
Mike and Ike (crunchy outer shell jelly bean)?

I can't see your picture because photobucket and other photo sites are blocked at work.

I was just informed that since the Mike and Ike's didn't fill the jar, the bag is also in there in the middle, with the candy. I'm guessing it was a 5 lb bag, but I'm not positive.

For anyone that cares -- the answer ended up being 456 and someone guessed 457. I guessed 225 and wasn't even close.
