    Title: Eulogy
    Author: Delilah Draken
    Status: Complete
    Timeframe: between ANH and ESB
    Characters: Stormtroopers
Disclaimer: The stories are mine. All the rest - characters and locations you've heard of in TV shows, movies, books etc - belong to their respective owners. I am just borrowing them.
Summary: A stormtrooper tells his tale.
Author's Note: written for the Star wars era/Character/situation roulette

Anywhere, during imperial reign, a stormtrooper as he carries out his duties.

They say we cannot feel what is needed to be human, that there is nothing inside to tell us apart. They say we are nothing but mindless slaves, programmed to always follow orders without questioning them.

They say we are all the same.

Let them look at us and think what they want. Let them talk about us as if we were not there. Let them send us to certain death for a crusade that cannot be won. Let them believe the lies and the hopeless dreams.

    We know the truth.

We know what it takes to fight. We know what it takes to survive. And we know what it takes to die.

We carry the knowledge in our eyes, feel it in our blood.

We cannot deny what we were born for.

Mow us down with your weapons. We do not accept defeat.

    We are what we are.

    We are Stormtroopers.

Honour our lives with your fear.

    Wow, that was pretty good!
i wasnt asking for poetry, but i didnt specify anything, and its turned out really well the way it is!
It really captures the spirit, and actually made me like it, which is quite an achievement, considering im not too keen on poetry! good job!

Well, I have to admit it isn't poetry. I intended it to be more of a funeral speechm, but if it feels like a poem to you... thanks for liking it.

Very nice. Has power and determination behind it-made me think that's perhaps what the Marines and special forces feel and how they justify their existance insofar as what they are defending and their sole purpose in following orders =D=

Really cool. You get a feeling for how lonely and alienated they all must feel, being born into a world that needs them as tools but doesn't want them as people. I get the sense that they live with a sort of indignant, righteous arogance: you hate us, and you refuse to appreciate us, but we're better than you, and we're doing the work, so in the end it doesn't matter, because it will be our faceless masks that will be remembered, long after your all dead and forgotten.

    Awesome.

I am terribly sorry that it took so long to answer your replies. Life was so hectic that I couldn't find the time to visit the boards.

    ROTSFan

Thank you for reading and liking this story. It surprized me that you came to think about the thoughts of real soldiers, as the only thing I wanted to tell was that even clones have their souls.

    Anyway, many thanks again.

A big thank you for reading.

I am always astonished what a reader can see in a story that the writer never even imagined.
