Watching the film now, and I can't believe I didn't notice this.

Jar Jar is going on and on (about muy muy humility etc), and Padme cuts him off with an exasperated "Jar Jar, I don't wish to hold you up. I'm sure you have a great deal to do.") Loved it!

This brought warm feelings to my heart

And also Anakin is "talking" to Jar Jar about how Padme doesn't remember him (Anakin). He really seems to be thinking out loud to no one, not really 'conversing' with Jar Jar - and doesn't respond when Jar Jar says Padme is happier than she's been in a long time. Anakin only seems to respond when Obi Wan steps in to say that Padme was happy.

AOTC is interesting, because it seems like everyone is growing and maturing around Jar Jar and flat out ignoring him. Which really tears at the heart when he smiles in the Senate when he hears how many Senators agree to give power to Palpatine.

It really seems to emphasize Jar Jar's naivete and childlike desire to want to be accepted and wanted, while still having to realize that he can no longer get by on his cuteness and charm.

I liked that too. You know that although she said "I do not wish to hold you up", she was really thinking "shut the **** up".

If she hates him so much, why does she leave him in charge while she's gone?

Padme was just being short with Jar Jar because she was under a lot of stress. Obviously, she didn't want to leave the capital but their had just been an assassination attempt on her life!

I think that Padme can be forgiven for being rude in that instance. It was all circumstance. It was nothing against Jar Jar.

She doesn't hate Jar Jar. She was in a hurry and didn't have time for small talk. She wouldn't have let JJ represent her in the Senate meeting if she held ill feelings for him.

Watch TPM. There are some really good moments between Padme and JJ. Especially the scene where JJ asks, "Do yousa think some people are gonna die?"

Of course there are some annoyances, for example, at Shmi's home when JJ is grabing the fruit with his tongue, but nowhere in TPM or AOTC is there anything to suggest that Padme hates JJ.

My my someone is rather ego centric.

Padme cut off Jar Jar because he talks to much. That's all. I do it all the time to people and I don't hate them.

She should be thankful for the distraction that he provided for her ten years before in the invasion on Naboo when the Trade Federation invaded her planet and when he brought the two fueding species together to battle against the Federation to win Naboo's freedom.

    Is this a humor thread?

Well Jar Jar couldn't actually come up with another impressive word :p so Padme decided that he better get to work "a great deal to do".

She trusts him, no doubt, but now they have to get on with it. Executive orders can't wait. [face_batting]

    Agree with Latorski I do.

Padme is the real one that allows the empire to become what it is. If she was not so concerned about her clothes and the likes she would have stayed, stood up to her killer and voted for the issue at had. Instead she had Jar Jar do it. In the end she was more concerned about what she was going to do.

Jar Jar should hate Padme for being such a loser that she had to have him do her dirty work. He becomes the scapegoat to her incompetence.

Er, Palpatine gave her an ?executive order?. She did remonstrate about it ?I do not like this idea of hiding?.

Furthermore, the investigation was not expected to take too long. Obi Wan : ?You?ll be back in no time?. Anakin : ?It won?t take Master Obi Wan long to find this bounty hunter?.

Padme again reiterated ?I haven?t worked for year to not be here, when its fate is decided?.

The point is, she could have been back earlier and relieve Jar Jar, if it was possible. However, too bad Obi Wan could not capture Jango and one thing led to another.

If she hates him so much, why does she leave him in charge while she's gone?

she may not have a choice. he's some sort of Representative, and it's entirely possible that he's her designated surrogate or next in line of emergency succession or something like that. it could just be procedural.

Padme is, at times, rude to Anakin and Yoda as well.

Padme, it might be said, is kind of generally bitchy.

    Sure she does.

    he's some sort of Representative,

And why does she allow him to be her representative if she hates him so much?

Padme, it might be said, is kind of generally bitchy.

    Where and when?

And why does she allow him to be her representative if she hates him so much?

he may not be her representative. that's what i'm saying. she calls him "Representative Binks," which i took to mean that he had been elected to some sort of position, probably by the Gungans. as i understand it, and this might be in the AOTC novelization (which is the same level of canon as the movies), he's the Gungan representative in the Senate, which probably makes him the designated deputy for Naboo when Padme's not around.

    Where and when?

Yoda's totally sweet to her when she shows up in Palp's office in AOTC, and she blows him off without acknowledging. she's really condescending to Anakin (who, admittedly, can be a jerk himself and is generally creepy when he's around her), she's rude to Jar-Jar, as we're discussing here. in TPM, she's really bitchy to Qui-Gon on Tatooine while she's pretending to be a handmaid, and she totally hangs Valorum out to dry in the Senate.

there's also an episode of the Clone Wars cartoon in which she uses C-3PO against his will as a decoy to draw enemy fire, which is way out of line, IMHO. she's just not a very nice person.

No it isn't. It's a level below the script, actually.

he's the Gungan representative in the Senate, which probably makes him the designated deputy for Naboo when Padme's not around.

And if she truly hated him, she could have objected or put someone else in her place, at least temporarily. B

Yoda's totally sweet to her when she shows up in Palp's office in AOTC, and she blows him off without acknowledging.

How does she blow him off? And she has just survived an assassination attempt, plus lost one of her handmaidens. I would think that would entitle her to be a little less than a ray of sunshine.

she's really condescending to Anakin (who, admittedly, can be a jerk himself and is generally creepy when he's around her),

She's not condescending to him. As for "creepy," well, I see it as more "clumsy" and "inexperienced," and when she told him they couldn't be together, be backed down immediately, and was the perfect gentleman until she tells him she loves him.

    she's rude to Jar-Jar,

She was in a hurry. She was curt to Jar Jar.

as we're discussing here. in TPM, she's really bitchy to Qui-Gon on Tatooine while she's pretending to be a handmaid,

I'd say she was more snotty than truly bitchy, and he cuts her down very effectively.

and she totally hangs Valorum out to dry in the Senate.

I'd say that is more unwise than bitchy. Besides, Valorum was not helping her with her crisis, which affected not just her but her entire planet; Palpatine was telling the truth, albeit self-servingly, when he pointed out that the bureaucrats controlled him.

there's also an episode of the Clone Wars cartoon in which she uses C-3PO against his will as a decoy to draw enemy fire, which is way out of line, IMHO. she's just not a very nice person.

    The Clone Wars are EU.

Perhaps the creators of the cartoon also saw her as bitchy in the movies and decided to expand upon that in the Clone Wars cartoons. ;)
