Since I'm the new interwebs guy, I figured I'd post what my vision is for our "web presence".
    ----------------
Basic Goal: Expand our webpresence to hopefully bring in more members.

Utilize as many "social networking" websites as possible (myspace, facebook, LJ, ClubEvansville, etc), and "content" websites like Gather, Flickr, etc all directing visitors back to the main myspace website and the forums. Utilize the "Friend" features and "networks" to spread our links around to like-minded websites and interested people (in order to bring more visitors to our website/forums and meetings).

Suggest that members that visit other forums place a link in their forum signatures to the myspace. Suggest members add the myspace URL to their personal email signature.

Possibly have members contribute content for the various websites: pictures, book reviews, reviews of other media, things SIG-related, etc - either posted by the members directly or forwarded to me to post and credited to the members.

Everything will include a link back to the myspace and forums.

Solicit ideas from members for websites to use for this, content to include, etc., as well as suggestions to refine this "vision".
    ---------------------------

    Please comment, make suggestions, etc.

I think an actual website would be a wonderful and obvious place to start.

We havent had one since 2005.

Not as much as you might think.. We definitely need a domain name ($10/year), but there are many free hosting sites to which the domain can simply be forwarded.

Agreed. But we've had this discussion before. The club doesn't collect dues or have any other form of income - which is why we don't have a treasurer. If we don't have money, how will we pay for the domain?

I think it would be great if we could have a "real" website, and not just a myspace.

    We do not collect dues.

We do have a Treasurer, Chuck/Navarre

but its not his responsability, it's ours. Maybe we can do what I suggested last years and finally talk about dues or other money making oppertunities.

Maybe Comic Quest can sponsor the money for a website, we do tons of advertising for them at FCBD. We would put links on our site for them.

Or you can do what I did and pay for it yourself, thats what I did. godaddy has some very reasonable hosting plans. It's up to you if you want to see a website happen.

Rather, it's up to the club. In the past, the club has voted not to spend money on a website. As a result, I'm content making do with what we have and maximizing the effectiveness of everything I mentioned in the OP. If the club decides it wants to start collecting dues and use some of those for a website, I'd be okay with that. If the club president wants to approach CQ about sponsoring our website, or even letting us piggyback on their website, I'd be okay with that too. If the club decides not to pay for a website, or approach CQ, I'm okay with that too. If the club decides, "heck with it, we don't need even need a website let's just use the forums", I'd be okay with that too.
