I think its very interesting how people react to alarm clocks. For example:

I myself set my clock for when I need to get up. I'll smack the snoozer just to shut it up, but get up within a few mins and turn it off, then get ready

My brother is terrible. He has two clocks...and neither gets him up. They just go off and off until someone physically comes in and wakes him up. He still never gets up

My girlfriend is the weirdest. Her clock is set 15 mins ahead because she "wants to get up 15 mins earlier" I've tried to explain that she could just set the alarm 15 mins earlier and it would be the same thing but "it doesn't work that way." I've lost this argument many times.

My dad hits the snoozer over and over and over and over until five minutes before he has to get up. He's 75 so I guess thats ok but I couldnt stand that!

What do you do? Hit snooze? Throw it? I dont really care, just wanted to make a thread

I've learned to just get myself up at a certain time because I can't stand the sound of an alarm clock.

I wake up seconds before my alarm goes off. No matter what time I set it for. Creepy.

Like if I need to leave the house by 7:30, my first alarm is set at about 6:30 and I'll have about 5 more set. So by the time it get's to 7:15 not only do I have 5 alarms going off, but all their snoozes too. I'm terrible at getting up.
I use my iphone to set the alarms.

Also I set my alarms at really weird intervals. Like I'll have 7:31, 7:37, 7:46, etc.
My iPhone has about 50 different times set to cover pretty much all hours of the day, I have weird sleep patterns.

I'm nocturnal by nature it seems (probably as indicated by posting at 4 AM, as is my style) so alarm clocks for me are a necessary evil that I'm still not too good on.
I've got two alarm clocks that I set, one of which has something to shake my bed as well when it goes off and is meant to be particularly loud. If I need to get up and I'm worried about it, I will also set my phone as an alarm, and put it on the other side of my room.
I have already learned, though, that my brain typically undercuts me, and so if I'm trying to be up at a remotely 'decent time' by societal standards but I don't actually have to be anywhere, I've got a tendency to either sleep through the alarms (I have woken up having had an alarm going for a solid hour before) or turn off all my alarms without waking up enough that I can remember doing it. Which means, if it's my day off and I'm not going anywhere, I'm sleeping til past noon either way.

I use 3 alarm clocks, all set at about the same time. I make sure at least one is on the other side of the room so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. That way I don't ever oversleep.

i set the alarm and i get up almost immediately after i switched it off. that's my initial energy, it deflates quickly.

the boyfriend needs the alarm going off numerous times which always surefire wakes me and drives me nuts but he does oversleep if it's not happening.

Same here. Usually a few minutes ahead unless it's really early (like 4am early). Then it usually wakes me up.

For whatever reason I always turn the alarm clock off instead of hitting snooze. Because of this I now need to also set the alarm on my cell phone to ring about 10 minutes after whatever I set my clock to. :p

I have one clock set 10 minutes ahead, and the alarm is set for 40 minutes before I need to be up. My phone is my back-up, with the most obnoxious tone known to man.

    I still tend to oversleep.

Yep. I usually wake up about 10 minute before my alarm goes off. If I do sleep to my alarm, I just turn it off and get up.

Summer vacation for the kids, and I work nights. So..no alarm clock, I do generally wake up first. During the school year, I was using my cell phone as an alarm, STBX uses the alarm clock, and I didn't need to wake up at 5:30 like he did.

    Same here.

My husband has one of those fancy clocks that has two alarms; he'll set both of them, get up before either of them goes off, and then forget that he set them. So he's in the shower or something and the alarm starts beeping, and I have to turn it off.

I have a useless theory that alarms work better when they're set to unusual times (like 6:37 (pretending I get up at 7 instead of going to bed at 5)) because, you know, 5-minute intervals are arbitrary and unnatural. Of course, it doesn't make any damn difference, but I still do it.

And yeah, when it's something important, especially something I look forward to, I also usually wake up before the alarm goes off. I guess our brains are smarter than we are.

I typically only have one alarm clock set, and it's across the room from me so I have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. I set up an emergency one with my phone on test days, although I've never had to use it.

My alarm clock goes off twice for 30 minutes each time. I plug my iPod into it, so from 6:15-6:45, I listen to whatever I happened to cue up last night, knowing that I can remain blissfully dozing. From 7:15-7:45, I slowly come to the realization that when the music stops, I have to get up, do my calisthenics, and hop in the shower.

For the record, the Grateful Dead are not sufficiently motivative to do get up and do crunches.

This. I have to wake up before the alarm goes off, otherwise it'll give me a heart attack or something. Loud noises FTL.
Although this happens even when I use gentler alarm clock sounds like the radio at a very low volume or something like that, I still wake up before it goes off.

Sometimes I wake up like 30 min before the alarm goes off and then I can't sleep anymore because I know the alarm will go off soon and I can't relax. It drives me crazy.

I hate people that use snooze, if you set your alarm to a specific time, get up at that time, I don't want to hear your annoying alarm signal.

I usually set my alarm 30 minutes before I really need to get up, I wake up just before the alarm, and then I decide if I want to reset it for 30 minutes later and hurry to work, or if I want to take a nice an calm morning.

If I'm not up before the alarm, I usually get right up with it. It's a rare occasion when I have to hit the snooze.

Plus I think 9 minutes (that's how long the snooze gives me) is just too short a time.
