I know that the fabric is rough-spun and such, but what kind of material do you guys buy for Jedi robes? Burlap is the only thing I can think of, but it seems too rough.

EDIT: Sorry. I found my answer in another thread and feel quite silly now. ;)

S_S edit: locking thread as question answered in other thread.

Burlap is way to rough. Wool would suit you best. However it is expensive, If your on budget brown flannel would work or a heavy duty cotton broadcloth.

If you havent seen in other forums Army WW2 blanket wool was purchased to make the robes. Wool is the material used, but since its expensive and hard to get a hold of sometimes, just look around and make the judgement for yourself. I just bought this stuff for my robe

It is the perfect shade of dark brown for an anakin robe, although the images may not show it though. The only possible downside to this fabric is that it isnt as thick as other wool robes ive seen, but it still feels pretty heavy when complete. My mom double layered it on my sleves and hood though, and its works good for me. This stuff is also pretty cheap for only $12.98 a yard. The good thing too with most online fabric stores is you can order and get a full refund if its not what you want. You will probably only find wool though during the winter really, so start looking now, cause the summer doesnt ahve much selection. Ill try to get some pictures up soon, but my mom needs to fix somethings. I made my hood masssssive, actually too big lol, i was afraid to have it cut undersize.

Army blankets, eh? My dad has a few of those.... Unfortunately, they're in pretty bad shape since we tease the dogs with them.... :p Interesting alternative, though. :)

I found a list of cotton fabrics; chamoise, gabardine, etc. I'm going to check out the prices when I hit Wal-Mart tomorrow night.

And thanks for the ideas, guys. :)

EDIT: This is the thread I was looking at.

I used something very similar to flannel for my Jedi robe- It's a lovely coal black, and very soft. Only problem is that it's a magnet for hair and shed cat fur when I wear it.

For my tunics, I'm using linen and linen-look fabric for this set.

I went with the wool blankets. Just go to an Army Surplus store and they usually have tons of them. I found mine in the perfect color and weight for my Ani costume. It wasn't that expensive either. I got 4 blankets for like $50! That was plenty of fabric and I'm 6'9"!

*edit* I tried linking to a pic of my cloak, but it's not working. Any help will be great, as the help section of this thread is not working for me either.

EDIT: Yahoo rarely allows direct linking...and you need to post a specific link too...maybe someone who is familiar with yahoo can help.
