In the run up to Episode3, I have strangley become more interested in Episode 1. I havent seen it for a couple of years now, and only ordered it from Amazon yesterday. In this new found interest, I have been looking on the net for stuff about it and came across a WAV file of Darth Maul saying a little speech about fear being his ally. I dont remember this in the film. Is my memory just failing or was it originally cut from the film but shown in the DVD?
TPM had a TV ad campaign that consisted of several "Tone Poems." That speech was Darth Maul's tone poem. Most of the main characters each had their own. Some of them can be seen on the bonus disk of the TPM DVD. Mace Windy, too windy for spoilers!
I remember downloading those during the pre-release hype of Episode I. Those "tone poems" were pretty neat, especially Qui-Gon's and Maul's. 8^B
I loved those tone poems from TPM. I wish Maul had gotten that line in the movie. I think Shmi's tone poem was my favorite, for what it's worth. I thought it was very moving how her separation from her son was portrayed.
In the commercial one of the lines he says is "fear attracts the fearful" - An interesting point is that Anakin said this line in a deleted scene when talking about the fight between Sebulba and Jar Jar. You can see part of the scene on the out takes on the DVD.
Those tone poems were AWESOME! I especially like Shmi's and Maul's. The poems did their job -- got me REALLY interested in the characters in the film -- but sadly I don't think I was as moved by the characters' dialogue in the film itself. Go figure!
don't forget padmes..."there are certainly things i will do"...really captures her love and self sacrifice for her people. those tone poems ruled!
..."there are certainly things i will do"... Oh yeah, and followed by that quick flourish of loud John Williams music at the end. That was great. *sigh* I miss that anticipation that came before Episode I. There is anticipation now, too, but it's bittersweet, because it WILL ALL BE OVER SOON. :-(
I wish maul had more lines. I mean for such an intresting character he should have at least 20 lines.
