Anyone else waiting for a female admiral? We've seen a lot of female jedi leading clones into battle, but yet we see no 'everyday' females in the republic as officers.

So far we've seen a good chunk of admirals (newest one in Citadel Rescue) and we still haven't seen one female OR alien admiral. The republic was never racist or sexist, the Empire was. Personally even within the Empire, I don't get the sexism to be honest. I know the real life reasons behind there being very little to no women in the Empire during the films because of the time the original trilogies were created in, but in-universe reasons as to why the Empire would choose to exclude females from their ranks makes absolutely little to no sense. Throughout the history of the SW galaxy, women were in very powerful roles. For the Empire to exclude potentially powerful females based off their gender alone seems silly, as I see an Empire viewing skill over gender and an empire would want as many soldiers as they could get. Anyway, my point is that the Republic is known for not being sexist, so why is there no female admirals or officers in TCW?

Who else thinks its about time TCW broadens their horizon and gives us a female or an alien admiral?? Im sick of seeing human males. It gets boring after a while. If TCW wants to throw in more humans, I suggest they throw some into the jedi ranks or "lower" level ranks such as criminals because the way the show makes it seem, its as if only aliens are the dancers, thugs, and pirates and humans are more of the elite in society- this is FAR from the case when we look at the EU.

In the upcoming MMO SWTOR, one of the main republic generals is a woman named Garza who is said to be one of the best officers in the entire Republic military because of her tactical and strategic near-flawless record. I think TCW needs a female officer like this, what do you all think? :) What about an alien admiral?

excellent point and i agree- even Empire had non-humans while they were speciesistic (or even racistic) and GL have confirmed himself that Imperials were not officially sexistic- women had equal rights but some moffs and officers may have had their own sexistic ideals...

anyway TCW definitely needs some alien-admirals, captains etc. and females as well... and btw what was name of that new admiral in episode?

EDIT: Ok he was Admiral Coburn..... and when do we see that Admiral Wurtz mentioned in TCW-movie?:p He was male but not necessarily human....

Yea, it's very much needed. The non-clone military personel should be as varied as Jedi. Also, more non-white humans should be seen.

On the Empire thing, like Swash said, i don't think the Empire had any anti-woman's rights rules, but that many Moffs held sexist principles themselves, and the structure of an Empire makes the personal bias of a ruler affect things a lot more than in a Republic. The Empire's bad, people. Fascism takes away rights, don't do drugs and stay in school. And drink your Ovaltine.

Well rebels also seem to be fully human (not to mention fully white and mainly filled with males) in ANH and ESB and it always bothered me a bit- most are from Alderaan, Corellia and Chandrila so it kinda explains it.... Rotj has plenty of aliens and blackskinned guys and guys with asian looks as rebels....

GL confirmed that there is minority of female stormtroopers -femmetroopers- too:p and Moffs were given all power control over their territories in ANH- so if they decide 'no women in army or navy' it's law on their sector if Emperor allows it- only he can intervene to decisions of moffs and governors.... actually i think there is few alien moffs as well- perhaps Muuns (according to EU muuns were not subjugated) or Pantorans (technically just humanrace) for example but that's just fanon speculation for now:p

TCW should have some arc focusing on speciesm/racism- they had Trespass though....

Btw is it just me or is admiral Coburn supposedly looking like asian?- I think he is....so then he is first non-european looking admiral;)

To be fair have we have only seen 5 admirals.

Also in my line of thinking, since the Republic did not have a standing military before this they took all the admirals from a planet that had war junkies that studied strategies and were the only ones who knew anything about commands. It just happen that they were all white cause it was an all white planet.

I don't mean anything racist about that. Just kinda like how they have portrayed Mandalore to be all blonde. Or a planet to be all desert, snow, lava. Star Wars just simplifies things down like that.

It'd be great to see Ackbar as an officer in the Republic Navy. Don't know how well that would work with continuity but I doubt that even matters anymore.

If they could make it work with continuity (having him as an officer, but one who is posted to the defence of Mon Calamari, could work easily enough I think), it would be awesome, especially for the contrast in seeing Ackbar in the Imperial/Republic uniform. He could even be a parallel to Yularen - one of them kept to the 'following orders' code during the transition to Empire, whilst another did what was right and joined the Alliance.

Though I suppose Dodonna would be a better choice for that anti-Yularen role.

No. No female admirals, and definitely no alien commanders leading the Republic forces. I want to see british officers only, just so it can resemble the Imperial Navy in the OT. I only want the seperatists to consist of alien races, too. It would explain why the Empire is only comprised of humans.

I wouldn't mind seeing a female Separatist admiral/general. Somebody in uniform calling the shots. Asajj doesn't really count.

Says guy who has imperial alien in his icon:p so you say imperials should have more aliens in their midsts?...- if there is one alien officer that is CIS traitor what about that? It makes no sense if Republic has no alienofficers as minority if even Empire has..... change goes backwards then..... majority needs to be humans of course.... but really Empire has Thrawn and few Twi'leks and Zabraks and all in EU and Empire should be only actually speciesistic organization- so Old Republic must have alien officers that EU and OT would make sense better.....

Haha- Admiral Opress[face_laugh] very random idea..... where do they get admirals anyway- that's very high position that requires great knowledge about starships and battletactics- they should show some naval training or something- not everyone can be admiral or even captain

I would imagine they were incorporated into the Grand Army from the Judicial Forces, Planetary Defence Forces or Planetary Militaries. I am sure there are entire military units in the GAR which consist of entirely non-clone forces (Rahm Kota?s units for example).

I want Kota to TCW- they could probably have voice actor Cully Fredrickson too- they had two originally TFU voices already and Taber and Kane are also TFU-actors.....

I would imagine there is minority of alien republic officers and most of them are either killed during the war or defect to seppies- or then some simply reject order 66 remaining loyal to the jedi (who are non-humans as well as humans) or are later cast aside because of their species or accept lesser position because of that.... most republic's military worlds are human- Eriadu, Anaxes, Corellia (which however may nor belong to republic senate at the time as EU tells) for now we have seen only few admirals and captains it's natural we have seen only humans they are obviously most numerous species in the galaxy and at least in the republic- but nothing prevents us from seeing aliens in the future- they however should show us speciesism of some kind to explain how prohuman culture gained so much influence in the Empire- mainly alien CIS is one reason of course - but i think it was good to see even CIS has humans other than Dooku since it felt very odd Dooku would be only human amongst them.....Isn't entire Serenno mainly human separatist world as well?....

I was always under the impression that Kota was the exception that proves the rule. Seeing as there wasn't an official army until Kenobi went snooping around the Archive backlogs...[face_thinking]

Though I'd be surprised if most planets didn't have their own armies for defence - one of the things I liked about Sphere of Influence is that we saw Neimoidian guards on that Trade Federation ship instead of the generic B1s everywhere (discounting the end of course:p) It helps the analogy that the GAR is like NATO or when the UN sends in forces, while every country still has its own army to fight its own battles.

Dugs had warriors and those railgunthingies- Twi'leks had freedomfighters so yep that's the case- big defense forces like Corellian's can also help other planets together with clones while not actually belonging in to GAR.... Kota was exception because he didn't wan't clones to his command- yet i think he had to co-operate with some- Kota and his men being forced to accompany someone with clones would create an interesting episode...

I think that at this point, we have some free room for alien admirals and officers. The Republic is still the Republic, and there should be a bunch of home fleets around to protect their respective planets. Palpatine's policies might be slowly twisting attitudes, but for now, I think it's not so bad that non-humans can't lead fleets.

If I'm not mistaken, it's only once it becomes an EMPIRE that humanocentrism, sexism, and British accents become widespread. And no, I don't think they're necessarily connected. :p

We must remember that humans/aliens classification is not very working in GFFA- let's say for grans dugs and humans are both aliens- so we could actually see alien republic officer portraying speciesistic actions against neimoidians or something..... even humanocentrism of Empire accepted some non-human species as equals or nearly equals but most of those were not as common as humans.... i would imagine there is even few non-human moffs- for example after Trespass would be easy to see Imperial moff of Pantora enslaving Talz - pantorans are after all technically blue humans while Talz are "aliens" and good slaves... nearhumans probably wanted to be known as human races during Empire... while some neimoidians rather wanted to be "Duros"

In the films and in TCW there seems to be very little "speciesism" except for what's implied by the demographics of the Imperial (and Rebel) armies. The discrimination is mostly against droids. Leia's comments about Chewie are the most racist things we hear! Well, that and the Death Star Detention Officer, and in "Innocents" it's implied that "tail-head" is a bit of a slur. But it really isn't addressed much at all.

That's why TCW really should get into it- OT don't really make sense without at least Imperials being more humanocentric than usual... Trespass had clear speciestic attitudes against Talz which were savages on their own home- and Tan Divo called Halle Burtoni "Longnecked kaminoan" clearly bit useless fact- longness of her neck shouldn't have anything to do with her possible guilt....

I always thought that the clone army was a precaution more than anything. Given that this is a civil war, and that the Republic is more of a confederacy than federacy, a centralized military is needed. If the GAR comprised of the militaries of one or two ?Military Power Nations? within the Republic there is a considerable risk of one of those nations succeeding or seeking neutrality. That would cause a military vacuum and could even turn the GAR against the Republic itself (possibly causing a civil war within a civil war).

I liken it to the European Union Military, only because there are likely only a few sovereignties with considerable militaries, it essentially a couple of nations defending many thousands. I don?t think this could have logically worked as a defence plan and I think that a completely centralized military was needed.

In reality however it is clear that the clone forces could have fought the war without support from planetary militaries... something Amidala makes clear in Pursuit of Peace by acknowledging the non-clone forces within the GAR. I would imagine however the ?expeditionary forces? of these particular planets would have been sent on defensive assignments to free up the clone forces. In other words I can see them defending trade routes and primary Republic systems. This would free up the clone forces to be dispatched to the borders of the Confederacy to defend on the front lines.

    Here is a hypothetical scenario:

    GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC

25,000,000 Clone Forces ? Primary Defence Force dispatched throughout the Republic
2,000,000 Corellian Expeditionary Force ? Permanent Defence of Hydian Way
5,000,000 Spartan (Fan-Story Power for sake of hypothetical) Expeditionary Force ? Guard of Primary Core Worlds, partly dispatched to frontline engagements
3,000,000 Kaut Expeditionary Force ? Defence of Ship Yards

Actually TPM has speciesm as one of the main themes what comes to storyline of Padmé and Jar Jar-

Gungan-naboo relationship is obviously speciesistic "Wesa no like da Naboo. Da Naboo tink day so smarty. Day tink day brains so big." So humans of naboo use to think gungans are stupid- we can see Panaka's attitude for example "they were most likey wiped out" he clearly doesn't really like rather foolish gungans- unlike ah always so soft Padmé who seems to be surprised gungans seem to be nice after all- foolish but not evil or anything really bad.... she probably had very negative picture of them being raised in naboo culture... we can see how Jar Jar -character was hated by many fans.... it only proves the sad truth that accepting difference is something real people cannot easily do on Earth- it's easy to say difference is good diversity is good... as long as i don't have to accept it personally....

well enough moral talk and to subject- alien admirals? Yes... or is republic speciesistic and even sexistic already? Apparently yes "humans and non-humans have same rights as long as they don't want to be admirals:rolleyes: and female commanding a fleet -so ridiculous" suddenly I wanna join to CIS:p

But what about another totally human male group- senate commandos?! and senate guards... in movies and in TCW- why only human males?- white human males (we cannot see under armors though) some speciesistic tradition? where are female senateguards, gran senate guards, rodians.... Ishi Tib, Mon Calamari??????

ok we know armor that suits to humanmales probably suits to mirialans, pantorans and as Cargo of Doom proved even for duros and possibly neimoidians... maybe even weequays
we saw Arguys using customised open helmet so why not customised helmet for other species- customarmor for femalebodyshapes- for non-humanoids... dug in armor[face_thinking] ... Pa'lowick?.... Talz???? Wol Cabas****e????
Shouldn't all species and sexes have equal right to join senate guard or republic navy?- If not... how strict standards there is?- Is it forbidden if you don't have english accent (Kilian managed to pass the tests with scottish one:p )

Empire is 'evil' just because it has these inequalities- if Republic already is the same- is it worth fighting for?o_O

I didn?t see this as speciesist, rather as a long running feud or dislike the two cultures had for each other. The Gungans seemed to think the Naboo were arrogant whilst the Naboo thought the Gungans were primitive. I see this more as a feud between the cultures which has lead to speciesism, which doesn?t necessarily mean that the ?speciesism? is a recurring theme in the PT... in fact given the interaction between cultures, species and peoples within the Republic I would say it is quite a multi-cultural and tolerant society.

I also think your suggestion that people didn?t like Jar Jar because he was a ?different? species is completely misguided. They (not me) didn?t like him because they thought he was annoying. That?s like saying I find that ?Asian? person annoying and then someone calling me a racist. I don?t find him annoying because he is Asian I find him annoying because he is annoying.

I always thought the Senate Guard were essentially a tradition from the ?ancient Republic? were in it consisted primarily of human cultures. I think it has more to do with tradition than anything speciesist.

I fail to see any ?inequalities? here. All species seemingly have equal rights within the Republic, the entire ?galactic? society seems to be especially multi-cultural and you don?t see anyone singling out someone because of their species...

Perhaps the reason we see primarily human Admirals is for a few reasons. Firstly many Republic ?loyalist? sovereignties are human based, which obviously means there would be more humans willing to volunteer for service. You could also have a situation where all the high-ranking military officials are from a select set of militarist worlds which could be primarily human (since we are a rather aggressive race even in the Star Wars universe). The rest might not be accomplished enough to be military officials or might remain with the ?Home Fleets? (especially since the majority of alien worlds are on the front lines, whilst ?human? worlds are primarily within the Core).
