So, I found a house to share with a roommate and she has a FERRET. Normally I would be opposed to this situation, but I have to do a short-term lease as 1-bdrm apartments here are scarce. [Nice ones, anyway.]

I go see the house yesterday and it's acceptable. I knew she had a ferret, but I had never seen one in person. [BTW, I have a cat.] She does keep it locked up in one room for the most part which is the only reason I'm going to take the house. However, she gave the ferret to me to hold and I have never smelled such a disgusting thing in my life. And it's not even cute? It looks like an elongated RAT.

    [face_plain]

    I reiterate, ferrets are disgusting.

They can be descented, at least IIRC they can.

I think they are cute, and they love french fries (I don't know why that is important, I just felt like informing you of that :p).

Tell them to keep the ferret away from you lest you take out a violent outburst on it due to your hatred of the things.

If it didn't smell so bad and look like a RAT, I think I would be okay.

    It smells like...URINE.
I think she needs to bathe the damn thing.

Belay my last idea, instead, just try and step on it every opportunity you get, and then say it must have been old.

I created a thread yesterday about Smelly Critters, and Ferretts popped up on my list, too.

Alas, my thread is LOCKED like a virgin's chasitity belt on prom night.

She's wearing a cheerleader outfit, that's all the proof I need.

Unless it's a transvestite ferret. Or it may just be for a fancy dress party.

That's because you made a parody Awareness thread :p

Geo, if my roommate dresses her ferret up, I think that is the cue for me to move out.

I own two Ferrets, Chewie and Mara Jade, and you can't even smell them in my house. We even have their cage in a room right off of the parlor(living room for southerners) and you still can't smell them.

You just need to keep up with them like any other animal. You wouldn't avoid changing a cat's litter box and let that start to smell, would you? It's the same idea. At least with ferrets you can have them descented.

I guess this particular person is neglecting her ferret, then?

    "Neglecting her ferret?"

Is that some kind of euphemism?

Geo, I should have expected that from the likes of you ;).
Please feel free to fantasize accordingly on how my roommate "neglects her ferret."

I can think of cuter pets to have.
What do people see in ferrets? Are they intelligent? Good companions?

    I think a cat is a better option. [face_mischief]

I find ferrets to be extremely intelligent and quite mischievous. I personally like that. I've had cats all through my childhood and my ferrets are far better trained and a lot more fun to own. I have two so that they can play with each other. It is much more fun to watch them play with each other or a similar animal like maybe with a cat. But, cats get lazy too quick, except kittens, and ferrets will play for hours and then be out cold for longer. If your roommate has just one ferret and nothing else for it to play with, I can see it being annoying. It's lonely...that's cruel.[face_shame_on_you]

All small furry animals are automatically disgusting, as far as I'm concerned.

And I don't know if I want my cat playing with that thing :p.
