FF-UK:M 1st Birthday Party - New info inside

so at todays meet it was decided that we would be having a bash to celebrate the 1st birthday of our fine chapter. june 19th is the date of the very first chapter meeting, this one:

we will leave discussion open until 4 weeks before the event (may 19th), upon which date solid plans will be laid. this gives everyone enough time to talk about what we want to do, and then enough time to plan the time off etc.

ideas suggested were:

alton towers (mixed response)
paintballing
laser quest
bowling
house party

if anybody else can think of anything else for us to do then chime in here or forever hold your peace.

this thread is here to see what everyone wants to do (majority decision rules ), and to work out the times (i.e. all-dayer? evening only? 24 hour piss up?)

there is plenty of time between now and then to thrash out what we want to do, so let's discuss.

this is also open to anybody from outside our chapter to attend

i like the idea of the first 3. but i may not be able to make the meet due to the fact i start my A level exams around that time - we shal see what happens

 

I liked the sound of Alton Towers, would be a good laugh and a fun day. But I know some of you don't sound very happy about the idea and if any of you arn't really into rides then it probably isn't worth going.

But anything is good with me really!

 

I agree like I said I can get us into alton towers for free gut some people were against it because of things that occured last time...i think we shud go bowlin./ lasr quest and the get bit tipsy lol.......that my 2p like I said earlier anyway

 

I kind of like the idea of paintballing with you lot after you've all had a skin full !

Alton Towers probably isn't the best idea due to cost, travel time and the state of my spine after our last trip there but bowling, paintballing, all day piss up, all sound pretty good to me.

I like the idea of LaserQuest and Bowling. I'd like to do Paintballing, as I've never done it before, and it's something I've always wanted to do, but I know some people aren't keen on the idea.

We could always always go out for drinks at the end of the evening, as well. Find a nice bar to go to, or something.

 

Paintballing does hurt when you get shot! So it would help if your brave and butch like me.

But yeah, anywhere is cool.

i have never been to alton towers, and i don't really fancy ever going, purely because of the waiting to get on rides business. that just doesn't appeal to me, especially if it's raining. 3 hours to get on a ride that lasts 60 seconds? no thanks. grumpy old man right here!

paintballing is on the expensive side of things, fairly painfull, and messy. but it's an absolute blast though. when i went a few years ago it was a cracking day out! but very expensive.

i took my eldest to laserquest for his birthday last year and it was brilliant, however it doesn't last very long for what it is, so you would have to have multiple games. it's also extremely physical as it involves a whole lot of running about, but again, it's an absolute blast.

my vote goes for bowling and a piss-up/house party, or even a full on sit down meal. i could even get us a proper birthday cake on the cheap from my mom.

 

Most of the rides at Alton Towers these days you can get these ticket thingys and it gives you a time for when you can go on the ride. So basically you just show up at the time it says on the ticket and you skip past all the losers queing up and get strait on!

 

I'm with Dave on this one. As much as I like Alton Towers, and the meeting we had up there in July was awesome, waiting in line for stupid amount of hours is a pain in the backside. I don't particularilly want to go through that again.

Bowling is always cool, though!

 

AS much as I like the rides at AT., at that time of year its going to be Hell, plus not all of us get to go on teh rides we wants, lets do somethign we all can do.

I like the bowling / drinks party. Idea.

The Rides at Alton Towers are excellent and the last time we went it was a fun day out ( bloody knackered by teh end of it though). Queues can get extremely annoying. the two that stick in my mind are the Queue for Rita - Queen of speed. the ride, i think, was less than 60 seconds but we queued for over 2 hours, or something like that.


and dont get me started on the log flume. that music. I still have nightmares about it now . fun day though, certainly.

 

I think we can cross Alton Towers off the list. Looks like most of you are up for bowling, paintballing or laser quest. Bowling seeming to be the most popualar choice. So if that's the case watch out for me! They don't call me the Gutter King for nothing.

 

Bowling is good, I like bowling, and drinking, I like drinking.

 

The order here is VERY important! If not, we'll all end up like JonJedi!

 

Another vote for bowling and drinking. I may even be able to get to this one!!

so it seems that we are pretty sold on bowling and drinking (for those of us who won't have to drive that night: ). now we need to decide on a location for both. i could make a suggestion but i won't just yet

 

I'll wear my Champions League semi-final shirt then. But nah, be good if you can make it Hal.

And the location, Star City seems the obvious choice for bowling.

Hang on, June the 19th is a Monday! Madness! Drinking on a weekday?!
I think I may have to book some time off work for this. I can't see trying to get back on the train in a drunken state to be much fun on my own.

 

whereas i don't mind what day i have a drink on, being unemployed ATM it wouldn't affect me at all, but most of everyone else here has to work too, so although our "birthday" is the 19th, the party would be on the saturday previous so as to avoid boozing on a "school night" . have no fear dude, we might be mad but we aren't stupid (most of the time anyway )
