    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find a CD that has the FILM version of the Victory Celebration at the end of the Special Edition of ROTJ. I love that piece, as it is both happy but with a strong thread of loss and melancholy. It is beautiful. But so far, all I've found is that thoroughly WRECKED version (IMO) with children yammering YAH-YAH-YAH over the top of a great movement. Is the film version available in any form that I can buy?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I don't understand why Lucas insists on putting versions of these pieces that are different from the versions in the films... it is one thing to have it play in a different sequence, it is quite another give the buyer alterated versions. It is pretty dumb IMO. Especially since most of the alterated versions are not as good as the movie version.

Well, remember, there are three levels of the scores:

    1. As John Williams originally wrote and recorded with the LSO.

    2. As edited for the film.

    3. As edited for soundtrack release.

Sometimes we've been fortunate and gotten an "as recorded" version on a soundtrack, but more often it is the latter two that we hear.

I doubt Lucas has much input at all on the content of the score albums for his films. More likely is that it's Williams himself who supervises the organization and content of the albums for his scores. So if you want to blame anyone, blame JW.

I guess you could do a DVD rip of RotJ...perhaps the celebration scene isn't too loaded with sound effects in the rear channels.
