    Hi all,

I'm curious to know what the differences are between the first and second editions of the following West End Games RPG sourcebooks, or if there are any other than differences in cover art and game mechanics:

Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope
Galaxy Guide 2: Yavin and Bespin
Galaxy Guide 3: The Empire Strikes Back
    Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races
Galaxy Guide 5: Return of the Jedi
    Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters
    Star Wars Sourcebook
    Rebel Alliance Sourcebook
    Imperial Sourcebook

I'm also wondering how much overlap exists between the "Movie Trilogy Sourcebook" and the "Star Wars Trilogy Sourcebook - Special Edition" -- both being second edition books, but the second one covers information from the 1997 movie re-releases. Also, is the Movie Trilogy Sourcebook primarily reprinted from GG1, 3, and 5?

(I ask because over on Wookieepedia, several of the WEG books have separate articles for first and second editions. We can probably merge them if all that changed between editions was the game mechanics, but the background information was almost completely unchanged.)

    Thanks!

    Ok, here we go.

As for the difference between the 1st Editions and 2nd Edition of the books listed, there are not many. There's the obvious difference in game mechanics and layout. But other than that there are some different pictures and a little added material in the 2nd Editions.

The Movie Trilogy Sourcebook is indeed simply a compilation of GGs 1, 3 and 5, nothing more, nothing less. The Star Wars Sourcebook - Special Edition, however, is a monstruous tome that has pretty much all the movie info, in an original form. All the characters, starships, equipment, vehicles, droids, creatures, aliens, locations... So there is indeed a lot of overlap with the Movie Trilogy Sourcebook, but it's all presented in a different way. And don't forget that there's also the Movie Trilofy Sourcebook - Special Edition, which I don't have yet, but I believe is just the regular edition with some added SE content.

So, to answer your Wookieepedia question. I believe the GGs and Sourcebook listed can be dealt wiith a single entry for both editions, there really isn't enough difference in content to warrant separate entries. The Movie Trilogy Sourcebook can be said to be simply a GG compilation, and is quite different from the Star Wars Sourcebook SE, even if they have much of the same content.

Forget what I said about a "Movie Trilogy Sourcebook - Special Edition". It doesn't exist, it turns out it was only a mislabeled "Star Wars Trilogy SOurcebook SE".

That's pretty much what I had thought. Thanks for your help, Gry Sarth!
