Ladies and gentlemen, it came form the resource board, specifically from the Extreme AUer thread. This is the first of what I hope will be many challenges, and I've already been told the idea is "intriguing." So here it is, the First Extreme AU-er Challenge:

I challenge you to write a in which

    1. a character remains in the role they started out in, or in an intermediate role (e.g. you could portray Corran Horn as a cop or a pilot, but not a Jedi). You may choose the character, but their role must have changed dramatically in the cannon. This includes characters such as Tycho Celchu, whose defection was mentioned but not shown.

    2. that character interacts with a character whose role HAS changed in accordance with the cannon.

Focus at least in part on the way the relationship between the characters is different and/or similar to their cannon relationship. The fic may be of any length, but if it is longer than one post, please establish a seperate thread and simply post a link to it here. An index will be established in the first post of the Extreme AU-er thread.

May the Force be with you.

Doesn?t quite meet the rules, but it was what came to me. Character 1 was pushed down a path he once considered. Written in a few hours of procrastination during finals.

This is for fun only. All rights concerning this universe to this belong to George Lucas.

    Corellian Home

Patience was supposed to be a virtue. It kept Jedi on course, prevented wars, and helped younglings everywhere sit still during the droning of their instructors. It was not, however, a theory Han Solo abided by.

As the Quarren in front of him droned on about the advantages of sub-surface viewing rooms, Han tapped his foot and ran his fingers over the raised scar on his left hand. He figured it was mildly more polite than stroking his blaster?s trigger.

Of course, he had to be polite. Her worship?s orders. Of course, that hadn?t always stopped him in the past, but he did truly want to please Leia. And this is for all of us.

Finally resigning himself to the idea that Leia would forever be at the beck and call of the New Republic, he had agreed with her that they need a home. One more permanent than the bunk on the Falcon or the luxury suite in the Stellar Reef Hotel that the Council had given Leia. Much of Mon Calamari had been destroyed by the World Devastators, leaving few existing choices. So the hunt had begun. Bids came in from architects all over the galaxy, vying for the chance to build the home of the woman who would likely be the next President of the Republic. And with them came the headaches.

It had started with the architectural style. Han had figured a building was a building, and as long as it had a place to park the Falcon and tuck in the kids, it really didn?t matter what it looked like. Leia had wanted a Calamari style abode, to match the majority of the structures on this world; with smooth, elegant lines and natural grace. But when the first blueprints had arrived mentioning water locks and humidifiers, Han had commented that he was raising children, not tomorrow?s catch of the day. That had earned him a place on the couch for a week.

But the comment had bothered Leia, and she began to look into an Alderaanian style home. Han had agreed, pleased to listen to Leia re-visit childhood memories of stately homes that blended into Alderaan; becoming part of the planet without harming a single blade of grass. It wasn?t until after a call from Winter on Anoth, that Han had realized their home could never be Alderaanian. It had been a simple daily call, allowing parents and children to know each other, if only from a few exchanged words and smiling glances. The twins had learned to levitate objects; creating a lovely mosaic on their bedroom ceiling with their color sticks. Winter had punished the twins, but had allowed their master piece to stay. Han was an indulging parent but knew that coloring on walls of white alaba would earn a stricter punishment than a timeout and a missed desert. He could never force his children to reside in a living piece of art they could never make their own.

Knowing that Leia, Jedi patience or not, was quickly becoming frazzled at his refusal to pick a design, had volunteered to find an architect. Now he was stuck listing to candidate after candidate buzz, click, or blather about advantages of one design or another while Leia was probably sitting on the Council, listening to similar blathering on how best to wrest Thyferra from the Isard and the Empire.

Han dismissed the Quarren with his best ?Thank you for coming,? but had to result to waving his blaster when the Quarren refused to take the hint. Wishing devoutly he could take that same blaster to his own skull, he let the next candidate in.

?General Solo, it?s a pleasure to meet you?

?It?s no longer General, it?s just Solo,? Han replied gruffly, hand still on his blaster.

?Very well, Captain. I was a bit nervous meeting the infamous General Solo, so I brought a bit of fortification. Care for some??

    What on Kessel was this

    The Emperor-less Hand

Leia Organa Solo stood gazing through the large transparisteel windows of her office. As Chief of State of the New Republic, her office was located near the top in one of Coruscant?s tallest buildings, giving a breathtaking view of the city-planet. Usually she watched the sunset from her balcony, but the chilly air had driven her inside tonight.

Normally this peaceful time helped Leia center herself after a long day spent babysitting the Senate. Today?s session had been especially unruly. There had been so many invectives hurled that if words were blasters bolts, most of the Senate would have perished. Sometimes it seemed like the easiest thing the Empire could do to defeat them was leave them alone.

The Empire was being oddly quiet. For the last few years they had merely harried the New Republic, striking nothing of importance nor showing any interest in starting a larger conflict. The Empire is no longer a threat. How many times had she heard those words? Too many senators were allowing themselves to be lulled into a false sense of security. She knew better than to think the Empire would just give up. Why give up when all you need do was wait? Selfish and greedy politicians were doing a fine job of bringing down the New Republic without any help.

Lately, Leia was forced to fight tooth and nail for every inch of pro-defense legislation. Numerous senators felt that spending credits on the military was a waste when they saw no ?current threat? and there were so many little pet projects they could use the credits on instead. They wouldn?t see a threat unless warships were orbiting their home worlds or Coruscant itself. Then they would demand the fleet protect them, whilst vehemently claiming to have supported it all along. At times it seems to Leia that she was the only one standing in the way of the New Republic pushing itself over the brink into the abyss.

Leia sighed. Something felt amiss. It was times like this that she wished for formal Jedi training. Elusive feelings of threat were of little help. A real Jedi would be able to pinpoint the source of trouble and act on it. She only lost her appetite and felt apprehensive.

She was brought out of her reverie as something out the window caught her attention. That?s odd, she thought. What is a speeder doing flying in this area? At the same moment, she felt an urgent warning through the Force. As she stepped quickly to the left and turned around, a knife passed right where he heart had been a moment before.

The source of the thrown knife was a woman in the garb of a senatorial aide with flame-red hair. The assassin held a small, but very lethal looking blaster in her hand, which was pointed unwaveringly at Leia. Having lost the element of surprise, the woman allowed herself to ask her quarry a question. ?Any last words before I send you off to become one with your mystical Force?? she asked with a sneer.

Weaponless, Leia could only think of one thing to do. She reached out to her twin. Luke! She felt him send a sense of calm and reassurance to her. Hold on. I?m coming. Hoping that her assassin was the egotistical type, Leia asked her a question. ?Who are you? I at least deserve to know who is responsible for killing me.?

?I am the Emperor?s Hand,? The assassin replied haughtily.

Knowing that angering her adversary was dangerous, but needing to keep her talking, Leia replied. ?The Emperor? He has been dead for years. Don?t tell me the Empire is still trying to claim his death was a ?rebel lie?.?

?I felt my master die, killed by your accursed brother and the treacherous Darth Vader,? the assassin spat. ?This, your death, is the beginning of my revenge.?

A twinge of warning caused the assassin to dodge the lightsaber slash aimed at removing her arm. However, her lack of concentration allowed the blaster to be ripped from her grasp by the Jedi. Finding herself ill prepared for facing a lightsaber, she decided to make her exit befo

Those are both great! Very good.

As for Mara going after Leia to get back at Luke...I can see that.
