Arc Trooper Fives may have started out slow but he finally got character in "Darkness on Umbara" beyond yelling his name. He actually seemed the most put off by Krell which is interesting and what a moment when Krell pulled a saber on Fives when he stood up for Rex. Fives' reaction was kinda deep. I'm sure we'll see more of that. More of his elite ARC Trooper skills. He says some interesting stuff in the trailer. Lets talk about it. Rex isn't the only clone that deserves his own thread and whose fate I care about. I'm rooting for Fives more than ever to get through this arc as the sole survivor of Domino squad who now carries their legacy. I hope no one minds but I decided to give Fives his very own appreciation thread, about time someone from Domino Squad got some. Fives FTW!

Fives' note on the OS in "The General". Much better than the note for Rex. Do I sense a falling out coming?

ARC Trooper Fives thinks General Krell's orders amount to a suicide mission for the 501st troopers, and he's not afraid to say so. Captain Rex reminds Fives that the duty of a clone trooper is to follow orders.

Agreed that Fives got some AWESOME characterisation AND skills with this latest episode. They're actually showing us that he's developed some keen tactical instincts, and his aggressive streak has been honed into one of our most outspoken clones to date. I consider it being like a mix between Cut Lawquane and Rex: Dedicated to the conflict, but not blindly, and feeling strongly about the choices made. :D

While I appreciated Fives' character in the episode, I still feel like something is missing. There is a good backstory they could have worked from for this episode, namely Fives change from admiration of Rex to becoming his friend and equal. Rex and Fives have been in a number of episodes together, and I would have liked to see their relationship develop over time, since they dropped the ball with the Echo-Fives relationship.

From the dialogue, it is made clear that Fives and Rex are old friends, but we never got that in the older episodes, and it is especially irritating when, looking back, they had so many opportunities to do so.

Therefore, I hope that we get some more anachronic episodes to fill in the gaps, maybe even show Fives and Echo being put through the special forces training to give them some semblance of Arc Troopers.

Most definitely. Fives showed us his incredible skills with dispatching the Vixen creature and with his very short hand to hand fight again the Umbaran who might as well of been a putty patroller and his helmet the 'Z'. His out spokeness was amazing and he really was the first to stand on to Krell even if he might of lost his life for it. He does remind me a little of Cut both in spirit and intellect as of last episode. I'm confident Fives will bounce back in the coming episode.

Unfortunately I think this is another one of those things TCW just expects us to accept. It clear that Fives would have served for a while under Rex with the 501st. There is a great deleted scene on the blu-ray with him lecturing Echo and Fives.I can imagine they went through alot together between "Rookies" and "ARC Troopers". I also noticed how Fives was just calling Rex by his name not sir, elbowing him, and even getting involved in the decision making process. However I didn't think he was equal to Rex. More like Rex was giving him special privileges and letting him get away with things most troopers wouldn't. Kinda like favoritism. think the Citadel Arc's lack of clone focus is where the ball really got dropped. Fives was with Rex as much as he was with Echo, trouble is that was all in the background. Its clear Fives works on special assignments as an ARC Trooper so I'm not sure how much they would see each other now although its interesting Fives continues to wear blue. I can except there friendship rather easily if chronologically "Grievous Intrigue/The Deserter" happens after "ARC Troopers". I have often considered Fives and Echo specifically are the ones he refers to when saying -- "My family lies elsewhere." -- And that he has a more father/ son relationship with them who are in a sense grown and out of the nest. I know that sounds crazy. =P

Fives is awesome. I always knew his characterization while others thought he was "cardboard". It just became clearer in the last Umbaran episode.
Fives is a hero-type that thinks things should be fair. He doesn't stand for BS and works hard to deplete conflict.
    I know this because:
-He never picked on Echo like the other clones. He respected Echo and the two were friends since "Clone Cadets".
-"This war is going to end!"
-He never liked it when people weren't progressive. This is why he started the "nickname" as numbers are too difficult for a shout out.
This is also why he was flustered when Domino Squad was behind.
-Fives encouraged the cadets on Kamino to fight for their home. Again, progressive.
-If I'm not mistaken, Fives had dual weilded for a time on Rishi. This could be start of why he was Arc material.
-On Kamino and Lola Sayu, he was the most active clone. Always using bombs and being physical.

Yes, Fives was never cardboard. He was just progressive and never really a flawed character. Trouble only met him when Krell, enemies, and Domino Squad threatened his future.
Also, that facial hair and tattoo are rebellious! [face_laugh]

    My favorite clones:
    -Monnk
    -Jet
    -Fives
    -Jesse
    -Hardcase
    -Fox
-Fordo (this guy should be on everyone's list!)

Yeah, he is definitely a hardass clone. Just not to the extent of Hardcase.

Speaking of which, I think the reason Fives and Hardcase connected so well was because Hardcase reminds Fives of Hevy.
Perhaps being the last of Domino Squad has left Fives feeling.....like he needs them again for old time reasons.

Whatever the case, I am actually impressed by the TCW team's story with Fives and the rookies. It seems well thought out and obviously one of the better stories by TCW team.
Who came up with the brilliant idea of clone rookies into arc troopers? I would like see more ideas from that person!

True that. Hardcase is a sociopath. But I guess he does remind me of Hevy. I can also see Fives sorta taking on Tup as a replacement for Echo. I don't think he's necessarily a hardass. Just very outspoken and at times temperamental.

Or the opposite, whereby Fives saw his fellow Dominos as nothing but a burden and now that they're all gone he can perform to his full potential, without being held back by the likes of Cutup, Droidbait or Echo, all of which were ultimately useless. Hevy was the only other one that showed true potential, but he blew himself up.

Don't share my true opinion on Fives and fake gush about this guy? No thanks. To me, Fives is still the same character who was "given ARC trooper status." He's just a cardboard clone trooper waiting to die.

Fives was my favorite Domino when I first saw Rookies and before I started to analyze and give a damn about clone-centric episodes. Now it's Hevy. :p

Why ignore all the character development he just got and several cool scenes showing why he is an ARC Trooper now? Blowing up that plant was very ARC Trooper like.

Even if Fives will get the most character development we've ever seen in a clone, some people will always complain that he started out as a cardboard trooper. [face_laugh]

A lost cause, if ever there was one. :p

Let it go SOU. People are gonna do what their gonna do. Fives is now the longest running reoccurring character on TCW and has reappeared the most times compared to other OCs. He also has a surprisingly developed character arc IMO. Fives is the only soldier now whom we've followed from the last of his training and his entry into the army, to his first assignment, and so forth. In some ways more developed than Ahsoka. He did start off rather cardboard like in "Rookies" and reverted to that in "Citadel Rescue", the citadel arc did no favors to any of the clones. Its been establish Domino Squad was creative and Fives always had a bit of a temper and does say a few sarcastic phrases every appearance which is what Umbara is fleshing out into a very outspoken, highly skilled, intelligent character with alot of anger and aggression perhaps caused by a somewhat tragic war stressed origin we saw bit of on screen. He definitively deserves some appreciation and the forum has an additional topic to discuss besides Mortis and Ahsoka's Fate. =D

I wonder how many episodes to go before Fives says -- "Someday this was is gonna end."

How can fives be an ARC trooper? I thought ARC troopers did not start out as "normal" clone troopers, but were bread (not the food), and were brought out of their tubes during an attack on kamino?

So it seems that fives must be a fake arc trooper.

For now on....he shall be called a FARC.
