Ok.. I have been trying to write a fic where there is cooking involved and am having a hard time 'creating' food. Anyone have any clue what types of food are served? All I can remember is Nerf and bantha milk. Thanks

Try the CUSWE (Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia) here at TFN. The best source of background information! ;)

(the link to it is on the main TFN page)

    Yoda makes rootleaf on Dagobah...
The stuff Beru is pouring is just called "blue milk...."
Anakin offers Qui-gon pallies, which I think are fruit-like things...
The TPM novelization mentions "Ruby bliels," which are like smoothies...
The fruit Anakin and Padme eat in AOTC are shuuras, which, I think, are like peaches with orange stripes...
Since nerf steak comes from an animal (the movie reference is "nerf-herder"), you could pretty much make food out of any of them. I've used "Shaak nuggets" several times...
Most people use "caff" to refer to a GFFA coffee...
I've seen people use "muja" for a vegetable (I think it comes from a JA book) which I've always assumed to be potato-like...
The waitress at Dex's Diner offers Obi-wan a beverage called a "Jawa Juice..."
The AOTC novelization mentions a fleshy vegetable called a tangaroot...
Dex and Obi-wan drink "ardees" in the diner, which I assumed to be coffee-like but is called alcoholic by the TFN encyclopedia.

Plus, you could always just make up whatever you need. Several of my fics make use of the "ardeberry," a blue grape-like fruit I made up that is used to make jams, jellies, pastries, juices, wines, candies, or dried-fruit-snacks.

Oh, and the TFN encyclopedia gives these entries for "alien food..."

    Matuuke ala giess
this was the name of a raw food, often served rolled up with a variety of vegetables and seasonings. It was not considered very tasty by most humanoid races, and eating it was described as consuming live kouhuns. Matuuke ala giess was often eaten with a drink of deuterium-pyro, to chase away the taste. (SWI65)

    Terratta
this Toydarian dish was created from strips of terk hide, smothered in oil and groat milk. (WOTC, CCW)

    Vercupti of Sgazza Boleruuee'
this unidentifiable dish was created by Dexter Jettster, during the years following the Battle of Naboo. It was this dish that first brought Obi-Wan Kenobi back to Dex's Diner, which was once Didi's Café, to visit the Besalisk. Obi-Wan had eaten a similar meal prepared by the chefs at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and had become quite ill. (VD2, SWI65)

    Xermaaue
this was a meatloaf savored by many alien races. (SWI65)

Muja is a hand-sized fruit.... FYI. Siri ate one in one of the JA books - biting into it so I am assuming it's like an apple or peach.

Mar is right, and that's where I usually get my references.

Breezy and I have also gotten into the habit of referring to any GFFA spicy food as "Sullustian". :p

Also, since shaaks are like cows, I would assume you could make beef-like dishes from them. Ditto with banthas--I've used bantha steaks and roasted shaak. You could find a GFFA animal that lays eggs and use that for eggs.

Yall've forgotten the ultimate GFFA food, DUCK!!! :p You could go to StarWars.com and look in the databank for animals and make foods from them.

There is the Corellian treat, Rhyshcate. Its made with vweliu nuts and Corellian whiskey, so you got 3 foods right there. I think it appeared first in the X-Wing novels.

A few years back, some folk from alt.fan.wedge figured out a real-life recipie for the stuff. Substituting hazel nuts and rum flavoring or Irish Whiskey.

Yeah, most of them are different from earth dishes, but there are some similarities.

Like this one that I pulled from the CUSWE...

    Matuuke ala giess
this was the name of a raw food, often served rolled up with a variety of vegetables and seasonings. It was not considered very tasty by most humanoid races, and eating it was described as consuming live kouhuns.

    That's sushi. ;)
