I saw something that touched on this topic in the Classic Trilogy board and it had me wondering.....what are the first lines and last lines uttered in each Star Wars movie....and do they offer any significance or pattern:

    The Phantom Menace:
    First Line: QUI-GON: Captain
    CAPTAIN: Yes, sir?
QUI-GON: Tell them we wish to board at once.

Last Line: PEEEEEACE!!! - Boss Nass

    Attack of the Clones:
First Line: LIEUTENANT: Senator, we're making our final approach in to Coruscant.
    SENATOR AMIDALA: Very good, Lieutenant.

Last Line: YODA: Mast Obi-Wan, not victory. The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Begun, this Clone War has!

    Revenge of the Sith:
First Line: I actually forget this line...believe it or not.
    Last Line: C3PO: Oh No.

    A New Hope:
First Line: C3PO: Did you hear that, they shot down the main reactor we'll be destroyed for sure. This is madness.

    Last Line: CHEWBACCA: RWAOOR!

    Empire Strikes Back:
First Line: LUKE SKYWALKER: Echo 3 to Echo 7, Han old buddy do you read me?"

    Last Line: LUKE SKYWALKER: OW.

    Return of the Jedi:
First Line: OFFICER: Inform the commander that Lord Vader's shuttle has arrived.

Last Line: Oh. No, it's not like that at all. He's my brother.

Each line, as it appears to me, has some sort of significance to the story.
    - TPM FIRST - Qui Gon's opening line in TPM establishes the power, demanding nature, and a bit of the elite arrogance of the Jedi at the time.
    - TPM END - Boss Nass establishes the irony of foreshadowing for the next film which is anything but peace.

    - AOTC FIRST - Ominious beginning...the final approach into Coruscant is true. You never see Amidala actually return to Coruscant. Though she appears back on the planet in ROTS you never see her return...and then she dies on Mustafar...and never returns to Coruscant again.
    - AOTC END - The more foreboding line in the Saga. This sets the stage for the next movie and the rest of history.

    - ROTS FIRST - I don't recall
    - ROTS END - C3PO says the last line of any Star Wars movie....and says the first line of any Star Wars movie. But it really has no plot significance, hidden or otherwise.

    - ANH FIRST - C3PO is correct. This is madness. The beginning of the chaos and disorder of the Rebellion as we first see it.
    - ANH END - Chewbacca growls with our heroes victorious. That sets up their coronation in a way toward greatness.

    - ESB FIRST - Luke is fully indoctrinated into the Rebellion. Now he is more confident and experienced. He is no longer "kid" to Han, now he is his old buddy. Luke is growing up..which sets the stage for his ascension into the force.
    - ESB END - "OW!" Not a great last line, but "May the force be with you" is uttered just before that. That is a much more appropriate last line if you ask me for the force truly is with Luke in ROTJ.

    - ROTJ FIRST - Lord Vader...the central figure of this film...he has arrived...and that, which seemingly good news for the Empire, turns out to be the precursor to their demise for it is Vader that destroys the Empire once and for all.
    - ROTJ END - He's my brother....that establishes the future of the Jedi and the force. Together brother and sister will rebuild the Jedi Order...and they descend from Vader/Anakin who took down the Empire.

There you go. I think it make some sense if you overanalyze it like I did. I am curious to hear of any feedback.

    My last line...

.... Keep in touch with yourself.

Unfortunately, the last line of RotJ is now, thanks to Naboo's inclusion in the DVD release, "Wesa free!" - which does actually work in context of the final episode of the Saga, and also manages to tie in to Nass's line in TPM. We have Gungans proclaiming peace and freedom in the Galaxy following a major battle.

And no, I can't recall the RotS opening line either, though in one version of the script it was Obi-Wan's "flying is for droids!"

EDIT: And actually, I find "ow" to be a rather appropriate, if concise, way of summing up our heroes' dire situation as of the end of ESB. Ow indeed! ;)

The first lines in ROTS are:

    ARTOO: *bleep*
ANAKIN: Lock on to them, Artoo. Master, General Grievous's ship is directly ahead. The one crawling with vulture droids.

Anakin - he knows his stuff

I see parrellels with TPM and ROTJ-SE, but not the others. I don't think GL was going for anything here, in particular.

He's probably pissed that he didn't get a medal, while the human heroes did. Alas, even with those in a rebellion to restore the republic and its ideals, the speciest habits of the last 20 plus years engendered by Palpatine's Empire are hard to cast away.;)

My favorite closing line is RotS : Oh, no!

But i don't see anything in common with the lines.
