I apologise in advance, I've tried searching but the threads on lightsabers are so long it's impossible to research effectively.

Plain and simple, I'm desperate to buy a Force FX lightsaber (starting with Luke's ROTJ one) but have never seen one for real, only on the web. The cheapest I've seen them in UK is £69.99 - are they worth the money? Do they last?

I know some people make their own but I don't think I have the patience or expertise - must be a labour of love though.

Honest objective opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. MTFBWY.

They are nice if you want a pretty display piece, but you can't duel with them or you'll break them. You can upgrade a FOrce FX to an Ultra Saber, tho, and then you'll have a saber you can smack around without worry.

    Nice plug Ultra.:p

MRs are not duelable by any stretch. They're brightness is okay. They'll be bright enough for inside light but you take those suckers in bright light and you can't tell their on. Also if you don't know they are "splotchy." You can tell they're made of LED strips.

Basically, here is what i do. By the US 19.99 light-up sabers(x2). Then, break off the blade of one of them for deactivated shots. For the other lightsaber, use that blade or unscrew the handle and add a longer pvc pipe to it.

I guess you didn't notice the site in UltraSWG's sig.;) He makes "Ultrasabers" which are Luxeon LED sabers.

You might want to start with the "Your lightsaber" thread then the respective LED and EL lightsaber threads.;)

I have a vader fx (anh) and this is the saber that fits with what ultra said. Not for dueling but nice for display.

    HOWEVER

I have seen and read a review of the new maul fx and the person who brought it had a duel with his son (using one half each) and they say the poly blade of the mauls are MUCH tougher now than the previous sabers. The had an all out duel and the sabers held up to it and felt tougher while fighting.

That is why i am going to buy the maul, it means i can have a single, dual and double-bladed saber option whenever i want it!

I just bought a Luke RotJ. It was worth the money. Yes, the blade is a bit splotcy, but it's something you can ignore. The hilt is wonderful. The oversize part doesn't bother me, and actually fits with the lightsaber. It doesn't look bad at all. The hilt is wonderful to hold and swing around. The sound quality is wonderful. The blade is about 33 inches long. Frankly, it looks practically real walking around outside at night. I'd get one.

The Maul's are amazing, definately the best of the FX bunch with tougher polycarbonate, excellent blade support, and LOUD sound! BUT, the polyC blade tube isn't the problem, it's the LED strip inside, which will get dark spots in it when the vibrations break the solder joints, so you really need to upgrade to an Ultra Saber if you're going to fight. I'm offering Darth Maul Ultra Saber pre-orders on my website (for an very low price considering they cost 180-199 new and it's 2 blades), and if you choose red, it will be a real red worthy of the Sith Lords, not the orangish-red they normally come with.
