How long does it take to go from padawan to knight in the New Jedi Order?

I know in the Old republic jedi order force sensitive kids were taken at birth raised at the temple trained by yoda until they were thirteen at the most then handed off to a knight and trained with them until they were ready to take "the trials".

But im mainly wondering how master Skywalkers acaedmy does the whole process.

I honestly don't know. It probably depends on who the master is, the learning curve of the student and when Luke decides if the student is ready to be knighted.

Of course, the galactic need for feebwizs will necessitate their Knighthoods far faster than they should. And that's what could make things fun, learning as you go, and all the mistakes along with it. Joiner King slam dunked them all.

It all depends on the student and the teacher. One student could only need a little amount of time, another a lot more. There is no set standard that Luke has set, at least it's not evident so far.

IIRC there is no title of 'padawan' in NJO and post-NJO books, just 'apprentice'.

As to how long it takes; methinks about 5-10 years if they start their training aomewhere at the age of 2-5, but for the older ones it's shorter, probably 5 years tops.

But in comparison to teh Old Republic Jedi, ther are all just padawans, even Knights and Masters. And again there's that napotism thingy...

The padawai training-rate in the pre-Clone Wars Republic varied, as opposed to a hard-'n-fast, prescribed thing...A'Sharad Hett made Knight in less than a decade; Qui-Gon's unnamed First One and Xanatos both did it in six years apiece, whereas it took Obi-Wan twice that long to reach the exact same rank.

It ain't a rare thing during the NJO for some to get admitted to the club simply by peeing into the wind; others take much longer to pass the Trials.

Luke probably has a very skewed opinion on when a pupil is ready to go on to the next level, mainly because of his own training. I'm not really familiar with the specifics, so please forgive me- but he basically has to teach himself for years, and I wouldn't place him much higher than Padawan during his fight with Vader in Empire. He MIGHT have attained Knight by the beginning of ROTJ (certainly by the end), but he would have probably progressed much faster with the direct attention of a dedicated Master... Yeah, Yoda was there, but they weren't side by side 24/7 like Obi and Ani.. but, like I said, I only really have post-ROTJ novels to go by, so I could be completely off base here

Pre-YJK, most students seemed to be adults who came out as Jedi in a couple years -- a fairly swift process to jump-start the order, but notice it took these students up to another decade to become masters. YJK, the academy seemed to have more kids, who would obviously be trained longer, until they were in their late teens at least. According to NJO, most of these students became apprenticed to masters and knights before being allowed to become knights themselves, and DN seems to be continuing this. So I would say the New Jedi Order, as it stands now, recruits mostly kids who are trained from youth to use the force, apprenticed to Jedi as they hit their teens, and graduated to Jedi whenever they're ready. This is basically the same as the Old Jedi order. It isn't as clear on what they do with adult students -- they probably go straight to apprentices, get taught from the academy level up to Jedi status by their masters, and again, graduate when ready.
