Gas Pump "Prank" - HIV (+) Needles Hidden in Handles

So I got an email from my cousin saying that there's a warning spreading through Central FL about some idiots hiding HIV Positive needles on the handles of gas pumps. So it's advised that now before we pump gas, we look the handle over top to bottom before touching it.

I didn't believe it at first, but my brother has apparently heard of this, too.

Supposedly there's already been 17 cases of this happening in the Jacksonville area, and the "prank" is spreading as copycats decide to jump on the idiot wagon.

 

Wait ... I live in Florida.

It does sound childish and stupid ... I hope they catch whoever is doing this.

These kinds of things always make me laugh. IF it was real it would be on TV or in the newspaper or something. They wouldn't just send out chain letter emails to tell people. I've always felt that Snopes is a godsend because my mom falls for this stuff ALL the time and I'm constantly showing her that it's not real.

Yes, it's amazing what folks will fall for, my mom's the same way.

 

No such thing as HIV infected needles. (well, not in this case).

HIV dies outside of the human body in a matter of seconds. Drug users do have a hightened risk of getting the disease by sharing needles, providing they share in a timely manner. Catching HIV via unprotected sex is extremely high risk because the HIV doesn't need to travel through air to infect the other person.

In my defense, I didn't believe it until my brother said he also heard about it. And since he's usually the "street smart" one out of the two of us, I kinda'...well, you know.
