Audacity is a strong freeware for Audio Editing (google for it). But I don't know exactly what would make your recordings sound like Grievous. Pitching down and add a slight GVerb springs into my mind.

Have him smoke a few packs, then mic him talking into a coffee can. Should be fine.

Uhm, don't. I seriously hope you were joking...

Anyhow, a halfway decent voice actor can achieve a smoker's voice. I can. Hurts like a soneofabum, but it gets interesting results at times.

General Grievous sounds a little like early Strong Bad.

    [face_laugh] Wow... it's so true.

    *still laughing*

Yeah, if you can't get the program to work out, the jar/coffee can plan works okay depending on your voice actor.

Early Strong Bad... that kills me..

I think RyiokuXL had a thread on how he made greivous's voice.I can't find it, but luckily I saved his instructions on Word. Here is what he said:

RyiokuXL said: I spoke angrily into a 2.5' PVC Pipe, brought it into Audacity, used Change Pitch from A down to C#/Db by -8 Semitones.

I have no clue how to do that but....I Hope this helps

So find someone who can do it. You can't change the nature of your voice without making it sound fake.

Seriously, do the coffee-can, then you can do a pitch change later to get it where you want.

Then don't use a can, and just experiment with differing kinds of chorus and a metallic reverb.

i can do a grievous voice. nevertheless, you'll still need to do a little tampering around with like pitch and such. let me know if you're interested and i'll send you a clip.

I use a version of soundforge that does an incredibly good copy and paste job. Meaning I take Grievous' actual voice from the DVD, and record a sample. Then I take someone talking like him. "Whaats tha seetoooation Captain." You know, that Transylvanian "I want to suck your blood" routine.

The software measures the specific tone, reverb, everything, and then "clones" the sound over what you said making it sound identical in pitch but with different wording. No pun intended on the clone comment.

I did the same thing with Darth Vader. The software makes anything you say sound exactly like James Earl Jones. It's up to you whether you can copy the exact mannerisms and accent.

You most definitely cannot get the same results with anything free I've ever seen but if you email me audio clips I can convert them for you and send them back. It's no trouble.
