On the movie 'Clerks' the 2 guys are voicing their concern about the DeathStar in EPVI. How it wasn't completed and millions of construction workers were senselessly killed. Well I work at a movie rental store and I was lucky enough to take EPII home thursday and I watched the movie with George's audio commentary towards the end where the Genosians show Dooku the plans for the DeathStar. Here George is talking about how the Genesoians are the type f people who design and build things so they would naturally be the people who build the DeathStar and he says "...these are the guys that Jay and Silent Bob are concened about dieing in episode six, but after all they are just big termites" I couldn't help but laugh when i her that. it's great.

[Comic Book Guy] No, no, no, it was Randal who voiced his concerns about the workers on the Death Star, not Jay and Silent Bob. [/Comic Book Guy]

It's cool that Lucas has a sense of humor though.

yeah i know. but it's a Jay and Silent Bob movie, therefore they wrote the script. so lucas is right in a way that it's their concern.

But if anyone hasent seen it that little debate is friggin funny

I'm shocked! Shocked that GL couldn't even remember it was Randal who said that, not Jay and Silent Bob... ;)

DarthblitZkRiEG, Kevin Smith wrote "Clerks". Jason Mews is just an actor -- well, if you can call that acting! ;)

Yeah, when I was watching the commentary I had to rewind the DVD just to make sure I heard what I thought I heard... and I did.

I've never seen Clerks, is it any good? I've only seen Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and that was great.

You know what would be really sweet? GL should have a cameo in one of Kevin Smith's future movies... that would rock! :)

Yes that would be great. i would like a GL cameo in just about any movie. But, yes Clerks is rather funny, cept it's only black and white. I watched J&S.B. Strike Back today and I just today realized that Cock Knocker is Mark Hammel (Luke Skywalker) it's great!!!

And yes i do realize it says "Hey Kids it's Mark Hammel" Really big on the screen. I dont know what i was thinking.

Oh yeah, i think George ripped off Dooku's lightsaber from Bluntman's Bong Saber in J&S.B. Take a look at it when he uses the 'force' to pull it off of the wall.

Clerks is great. I like all of Kevin Smith's films, even Mallrats.

Smith gave a very positive review of AOTC on his website. He really got it.

Randal: You know what I just watched?....Return of the Jedi....There was something else going on in Jedi. I never noticed it until today....They build another Death Star, right?....Now the first one they built was completed and fully operational before the Rebels destroyed it....And the second one was still being built when they blew it up.

    Dante: Compliments of Lando Calrissian.

Randall: Something just never sat right with me the second time they destroyed it. I could never put my finger on it--something just wasn't right....the thing is, the first Death Star was manned by the Imperial army--stormtroopers, dignitaries--the only people on board were Imperials....So when they blew it up, no prob. Evil is punished....The second time around, it wasn't even finished yet. They were still under construction. A construction job of that magnitude would require a helluva lot more manpower than the Imperial army had to offer. I'll bet there were independent contractors working on that thing: plumbers, aluminum siders, roofers. Not just Imperials....In order to get it built quickly and quietly they'd hire anybody who could do the job. Do you think the average stormtrooper knows how to install a toilet main? All they know is killing and white uniforms....All those innocent contractors hired to do a job were killed--casualties of a war they had nothing to do with. All right, look--you're a roofer, and some juicy government contract comes your way; you got the wife and kids and the two-story in suburbia--this is a government contract, which means all sorts of benefits. All of a sudden these left-wing militants blast you with lasers and wipe out everything within a three-mile radius. You didn't ask for that. You have no personal politics. You're just trying to scrape out a living. That never sat right with me.

Wow can't wait to watch that comentary...

Hey wait a second, I just thought of some thing. The idea that the people building it are contracters out side the Empire is kind of off. What about those guys in the grey jump suits who carry big boxes of parts around? Are not they in theory mechanics? ;)
I could be wrong but it's a funny thought. They do have the imperial cleaning crew who pick up dead bodies left by Lord Vader after all.

...and what would that be, not to get off topic. :p

"Empire had the better ending. Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han Solo is frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. That's what life is, a series of down endings. All, all Jedi had was a bunch of muppets."

...that quote would have had more resonance had they kept the original ending, where Dante is killed at the end.

Well PadmeBra, obviously, no real lesbian is going to go back to men after being in a lesbian relationship.... *much less* fall for Ben Affleck!! ;)

StarFett, that comment in "Clerks" applied to the contractors who built the DS, not to the Imperial crews... :)

I laughed when Lucas said that in the AOTC director's commentary. Technically it wasn't Jay or Silent Bob who talked about the morality of blowing up DS II, but I knew what he meant. It was a nice tip of the hat to Kevin Smith.

Smith narrated the SW fan film awards on the Sci Fi channel, just before AOTC was released. He talked about how Anakin and Amidala get together in this movie, and they'll marry and one day produce Luke and Leia, "twins who've been known to kiss each other on the mouth." Hehe.

In one of Kevin Smith's commentary tracks on one of his dvds, (can't remember which one, I think Chasing Amy). Ben Affleck is talking about how he talked to George Lucas and asked him if he liked the star wars references in Kevin Smith's movies and he said that he liked the one in Clerks and had not seen Chasing Amy.

So there were Geonosians on board the DS2 as contractors when the Rebels blew it up?

I'd love to see GL in a Kevin Smith movie. Maybe he could play "Emperor Cock-Knocker".

Geonosians will probably be added to the super special editions of ROTJ if GL's comments are any indicator.

I like Chasing Amy's (it's another Kevin Smith film) Star Wars rant better...
    ----------------------------------------
    Holden:
That's a bunch of horse****! Lando Calrissian was a black guy, and he got to fly the Millenium Falcon!

    Hooper:
    Who said that?

    Holden:
I did! Lando Calrissian is a positive black role model in the real of Science Fiction/Fantasy.

    Hooper:
**** Lando Calrissian! Uncle Tom ******! Always some white boy gotta invoke "the holy trilogy"! Bust this-those movies arew about how the white man keeps the brother man down-even in a galaxy far, far away. Check this ****: You got cracker farmboy Luke Skywalker; Nazi poster boy-blond hair, blue eyes. And then you've got Darth Vader: the blackest brother in the galaxy. Nubian God.

    Banky:
    What's a Nubian?

    Hooper:
Shut the **** up! Now Vader, he's a spiritual brother, down with the Force and all that good ****. Then this cracker Skywalker gets his hands on a lightsaber and decides he's gonna run the ****in' universe-get's a whole Klan of whites together and they're gonna bust up Vader's 'hood-the Death Star. Now, what the **** do you call that?

    Banky:
    Intergalactic Civil War?

    Hooper:
Gentrification! They're gonna drive out the black element, to make the galaxy quote, unquote safe for white folks. And Jedi's the most insulting installment, because Vader's beautiful, black visage is sullied when he pulls off his mask to reveal a feeble, crusty old white man! They're trying to tell us that deep inside, we all wants to be white!

    Banky:
    Well isn't that true?

    *Hooper shoots Banky*

    Hooper:
BLACK RAGE! BLACK RAGE! I'LL KILL ANY WHITE FOLKS I LAY MY MOTHER****IN' EYES ON!

    From Mallrats:

Jay: (Talking about knocking down the game show's stage) Silent Bob stole the schematics off some foolish carpenter and found a weakness, just like the %&^#in' Death Star! He reckons you knock out this cross-beam, %&^#in' bickety-bam! The whole stage comes crashing down!

I LOVE Mallrats. Did you know that that is apparently the least loved one by the critics!?!

Also, Stan the Man Lee absolutely LOVES Kevin Smith's comedy...basically everything of his work. This is most shown in the bonus interveiw DVD in the Spider-Man Movie gift set.

Kevin Smith wrote the best review of AOTC i have seen. Go read it yourself . Its on Film Commement magazine. It really does the film justice. I liked it form the first time I saw it, but his review just confirmed my thoughts on the movie. Kevin Smith is truly a Star Wars fan. Not like Ebert. And the bashers around these parts.
