I've been reading all the books in order for quite awhile now and I have finally gotten to right before Episode IV. What I am wondering is how many stories are out there were the rebels get the plans for the first Death Star. So far I've read three.

Interlude at Darkknell a short story by Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole (from Tales of the New Republic).
Rebel Dawn by A. C. Crispin
Dark Forces: Soilder for the Empire by William C. Dietz

For this being such a secret project a lot of people found out about it.

Understatement of the century! They could have probably devoted an entire chapter to the Death Star plans in the Chronology and Atlas.

There is also the novel Death Star, as well as the video games X-Wing, Battlefront II, Empire at War, Lethal Alliance, and Battlefront: Elite Squadron.

Edit: Forgot there's also the game book Jedi Dawn.

Edit2: Also forgot about the ANH Radio Drama.

I'm more interested in the books then the games. Can anyone list all the books that tell part of the story of how the rebels get the Death Star plans. So for we have.

Interlude at Darkknell a short story by Timothy Zahn & Michael A. Stackpole
Rebel Dawn by A. C. Crispin
Dark Forces: Soilder for the Empire by William C. Dietz
The Force Unleashed (novel) by Sean Williams
    Jedi Dawn by Paul Cockburn
Star Wars Episode IV: (novel) by George Lucas & Alea Dean Foster
Death Star by Michael Reaves & Steve Perry

TalonCard is our resident DS guru, and had a pretty good rundown of the Death Star plans for awhile there (though i forget if he's updated it to include newer sources like Lethal Alliance, etc).

Suffice it to say, there were multiple parts of the plans that had to be combined to get a complete technical readout of the station. So you have key plan captures like in the X-Wing and Dark Forces games being one part, as well as the Radio Drama/Rebel Dawn books being another, etc that are combined in what gets put in R2 eventually.

Lethal Alliance is the bane of my existence--unlike the other videogames, there are no YouTube videos or official game guides for me to work from. And The Force Unleashed II is just bound to Force-throw the biggest Monkey-Lizard wrench ever rendered into the works.

Yeah, as Quest pointed out, the Jedi Dawn, Rebel Dawn, and Dark Forces plans have all been described within the works themselves as being different parts of the plans from ANH. The Interlude at Darkknell short story plans had been retconned into the location of the Death Star project. The novel Death Star took all these references and combined them into yet another plan theft story that makes absolutely no sense. :p

The Death Star plans are everywhere you look just not in the main computer.

Sith Trick #1: Hide them in plain sight... every computer in the galaxy got a set. Children play Built a Death Star with Theme Park game, etc. and nobody notices what really goes on. :p

Sith Trick #2: Blame it all on the Jedi

Sith Trick #3: Never do anything yourself, let your apprentices take the blame and bite the lightsaber blade. Always arange for people's doom to be selfmade by them without them knowing.

Death Star Plan interested might find this interesting: Death Star Plan Theft stories during the Clone Wars:

I'm currently reading Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse, and it references a story where somebody collapses just after being the first person to tell Princess Leia that something called the Death Star is being constructed. What story is that a reference to?

Don't forget the radio drama by Brian Daley for Ep. IV, which ties directly into Jedi Dawn. If you don't want to listen, you can always read the paperback publication of the script.

That would be the aforementioned Star Wars Radio Drama (A New Hope). Interestingly enough, this Rebel later got a name in Dark Horse's adaptation of those events, called Princess...Warrior. His name is Basso, and he became a reoccurring character in the Empire/Rebellion series. It's never explained how he survived Alderaan, I believe...

Ah, but this was all explained rather nicely by Lethal Alliance...or more accurately, the tie/in game Dath Star Designer.

After Lemisk or whoever got force choked by Vader, hundreds of other scientists sent in their own designs. Rebel agents have been collected many of these surplus designs and then sifting through them looking for the real one...judged by how silly it looks.

On that note, they thought the one with the super-laser in the middle looked less silly than the one with the SL on top, so they actually sued the wrong Death Star plans, but obviously it was close enough.

Well, he delivered the message on Ralltiir... how did he end up on Alderaan?

He left Ralltiir with Leia on the Tantive--he had more information about the Death Star hypno-imprinted on his brain. I think the radio drama indicated that he was recuperating while Leia pursued the plans at Toprawa.

He was probably shuttled to a Rebel facility offplanet for a more secure debriefing.

Yep, and some of them managed to find them in darndest of places, like in North Korea in the original Mercenaries game:

    http://www.eeggs.com/items/48067.html

Either Jennifer, Chris, or Mattias can pickup the Death Star Star plans as a hidden bounty item in game, although it's unlikely any EU author would ever attempt to integrate their names into the large list of Death Star Plan Finders.

This was mentioned above, and kind of ties in to Death Star, but don't forget Battlefront II. During the prisoner/slave uprising on the Death Star (as mentioned in Death Star), the plans were beamed by the rioting prisoners to Polis Massa. The 501st Legion quelled the riot and went to Polis Massa to get back the plans, but they'd already been beamed to Tantive IV by then.

Also, can't forget Empire at War, in which a portion of the plans were given the Rebels by the traitorous Moff Kalast. The Emperor, after personally executing dozens of Bothans, was told that the Death Star plans were being beamed to Tantive IV from a relay station in the Tatoo System. The Empire launched an entire fleet to capture the Tantive IV, and also was forced to destroy a pirate base operating in the Tatoo System before proceeding.

So yea. A LOT of additional/different points of view.

poor communications officer of the Tantive IV... suddendly from all over the galaxy countless "We have the Death Star Plans, see attachement" emails spam the Blockade Runner...

then they are copied to a disc and R2 has to sort them through... yet when processing all the different stages and changes he (thx to Jawa tinkering and Ion blasts as well as sand) R2 unites the puzzle pieces wrong with a dish in the middle :p

I wouldn't wonder myself personally if R2 had the full correct plans since AOTC already snatching them from the Droid Factory computers at Geonosis before Dooku downloaded them. He just never told anybody until Leia gave him the disc ^^

the ultimate retcon would be R2 discovering the plans when hacking the droid factory and then altering them, putting an extra exaust port on the Death Star... :p
