    I'm currently in the design phase for a giant robot costume. It's for a superhero convention. My basic idea is from "Superman VS The Mechanical Monster".
    [image=http://www.filmbuffonline.com/Features/AnimatedSuperman/images/SkyCaptainRobot1.jpg]
    I don't want to look like a transformer. I'm taking ideas from various other mechs like the ABC Warrior from Judge Dredd,
    [image=http://www.myprops.co.uk/ABC.JPG]
    The ATM-09-ST Scopedog,
    [image=http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1171/1251341182_b2dde5b187.jpg]
    Sky Captain
    [image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/eb/Robot_attackers.jpg/230px-Robot_attackers.jpg]
    and the power loader from Aliens.
    [image=http://www.teamdelta.com/i2000/pwl.jpg]
    My question to you is this; Should I include some sort of BFG in place of a left hand like on the Scopedog? The fingers will flex on the right hand.

    Come on, Navarre, this droid doesn't get nearly enough credit! ;-)

    I would've done that one already but the kids refuse to wear it. what I'm planning should be close to nine feet tall. I was all inspired and such by the #9 post a few threads back.

    Well this GONK was at or just barely taller than 6ft tall!

    ..... and it was heavy! Both of my collar bones were bruised to the bone!

    Mele Kalikimaka(Merry Christmas in hawaiian) all!

    Here the no.9 (Robot full scale build)on the right side.

    [image=http://www.larryweaver.com/entertainment/images/artists/giantrobots_hires.jpg]

    were building a similar droid/cyborg for our film Seven Jedi, were incorporating stilts so when the actor gets into the costume will be bout 10 ft tall.
    Will have pics up soon of the progress.

    All this talk makes me want to do another version of the GONK (one that isn't so detrimental to my body, i.e. light-weight).... and do an Optimus Prime costume, while I am at it. I do love the stilts idea.... perhaps when (or if) I do the Prime Costume I will incorporate stilts into it....

    Did someone say Optimus Prime?
    http://www.cardboardcostumes.com/

    It appears that #9 is standing on boxes instead of stilts. I snagged some recycling bins that look alot like these.
    http://www.shop.com/+-a-stackable+plastic+recycle+bins-p57504770-k36-st.shtml
    I'm going to put wooden frames inside and then take them to a friend who can fill them with architectural foam.

    Hmm I'm currently looking for cosplay and I came across gundam suits and found you can have custom gundam suits made. Simply google gundam cosplay, you could probably get something done by that means.

    That's no fun! My props and costumes must be made by me, preferably out of whatever junk manifests itself in front of me.

    Oh in that case here's what I had came across once

    it's a long process but very fun

    Paper mache

    You can find it at any art store
    and I heard you can build wire frames and do it from there, you bend the frames around the person who'll where it so it fits, then build it up from the frame. Using the paper mache and paris craft plaster, from there it's just making the basic shape u need

    Make an ice vest... or buy one.. but making one would probably be cheaper. All you need is a lot of pockets and a lot of freezer packs. Trust me when I say that a robot suit (or related type of thing) can get extremely hot. In fact, if the face piece allows, a computer fan works wonders in the head piece.

    Just some friendly reminders. I'm sure it's all been considered.

    I found this out the hard way when I did that oversized GONK DROID. It was made in late December so there was none of those portable clip on fans anywhere to be purchased to install in there. You would think that since there was a big opening in the bottom that I would have been alright, right? Nahh.... I roasted in that thing. I was in a t-shirt and runner's pants in that thing.

    On a side note, I checked out that site for the cardboard costumes. Pretty impressive stuff. Too bad there were no templates that I could download to do the Optimus Prime costume... or if there were I didn't see any.

    The event I am going to is outside, very little shade. It will also be around 100 degrees. Fans are definitely part of the design so far.

    No help with the Transformer tutorials, but I did one on obelisks for halloween.

    Lookin' a lot more like a Scopedog than I care for. The head swivels from side to side as I look around. I see through the round port in the front. Tryin' to use as many hardware parts as I can.

    I LOVE that! If I wasn't so budget constricted that is the kind of 'bot costume I'd like to build. Check this guy's costume out
