I'm a beatminer. I love finding the origins of beats used for today's hits, it's part of my DJ DNA. One of the hot songs of the Summer is undoubtedly Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy". Funny thing is when I listened to it(numerous times of course) I started to notice the scratchy sounds of an old record being played. That could either stem from a) the original beat being old and the producers resurrecting it from an old vinyl source for the current track or b) the producers purposefully adding the scratchy old record sound to add some vintage quality to their music.

I don't know what the case is Barkley's "Crazy" but I came across a blog today that shed an awful lot of light on the subject.

Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good - Crazy Edition

Apparently the Gnarls Barkley song "Crazy" is using a sample from a piece of music featured on the soundtrack to the 1968 film Preparati la bara! The composer of the original piece is Gianfranco Reverberi. Besides the informative blog I linked above, there's also Gainfranco's myspace page that also features the original music.

And that's the music lesson of the day. :)

    That was this year?

I thought that was like 5 summers ago. I've really been out of it.
