What do you think of the selection of nominees? Who do you think should win?

 

Bad selection.

1. Big Fish - Danny Elfman -- Haven't heard it, but I won't dispute it. It's probably well placed.
2. Cold Mountain - Gabriel Yared -- Should not be there.
3. Girl with a Pearl Earring - Alexandre Desplat -- Haven't even heard OF it.
4. Last Samurai, The - Hans Zimmer -- Haven't heard it; not a big Zimmer fan. I expect it's probably Gladiator meets the Touch. I'll check it out one of these days.
5. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The - Howard Shore -- Should not be on there.

What happened to Gods and Generals? It was early this year, but I felt sure it would be nominated. . .

Can one really consider TROTK Soundtrack as an "original" score when most of the music in it is rehashed from the two previous movies?

Now I understand why the Oscars did away with nominations like that. It really does make sense, even if the return of the king soundtrack is the best of the 3.


P.S. I hope Into the West wins for best song.

 

has anyone heard the score from Last Samurai?? is it worth getting?

 

I hope that RotK wins, some of its best parts were completely new. But I do regret that Gods and Generals isn't on the nomination list. It was the best after Rotk, IMHO. Same goes for the film itself.
