    Heya,

I just got a bit into Ska at the moment, but i don't really know any bands in the genre. I got my Reel Big Fish on repeat, and it's getting a bit ..err... same-esque after a while. I'm looking for some bands with that Reel Big Fish motive.

Anybody willing to help out a fellow ska listener?

    ;)

I went to school with Aaron, Scott and Grant from Reel Big Fish. Those guys have a pretty unique sound for a ska band, a mixture of ska and Green Day. AND, they have been playing those same songs since 1993.

If you like them, I suggest you al least check out these bands:
    1. Madness
    2. Mephiskapholes
    3. Sublime
    4. Let's Go Bowling

All the local ska bands in Orange County sound just like RBF, as they were kind-of the cookie cutter for ska bands....There are a lot of them, but I just don't know if you will be able to find their music..
    1. My Superhero
    2. Jeffries' Fan Club
    3. My Other Brother Darryl

A Lot of this stuff plus some CD samplers are available from Rhino Records, or you can look up the ska-indie mag called Skratch from Orange County, California. Good Luck!!

All the guys are pretty kooky.
I remember Aaron pulling the fire alarm when we were in commercial art class....
Scott was a dork our freshman year, always getting picked on and stuff...
Grant was really popular cause he was in jazz band. No ****!
And the last I heared Matt Wong was dating Monique from the band Save Ferris, whom is a lot like RBF, only not as hyper.
I still see Aaron cruising around Huntington Beach from time to time in his hawaiian shirt, rockabilly hair and a huge SUV with a BBF decal on the back.

When I was a senior, RBF held an in-store concert at a brand-new Good Guys! electronic store. About 1,500 kids showed up, and they had to barricade the store. After they were done, all hell broke loose...
Kids were grabbing stuff left and right (the Good Guys! store is connected with a Tower Records), and the crowd of about 1,000 who wasn't let in started rioting and flooded the store! CHAOS! I have never been more scared of a crowd of 13-16 year old girls before. Ran my ass off, and got away with a couple CDs and DVDs! Muhahaha!

EDIT: How could I have forgotten the Bosstones?!?! They are about as close to the sound as you are looking for!

    Streetlight Manifesto
    Reel Big Fish
    The Aquabats
    Five Iron Frenzy
    Supertones
    The Insyderz
    33 West

All of these are top notch ska bands, Five Iron is my favorite though.

The Specials are good, and Desmond Dekker is still going strong as the king of ska.
