    Here is my idea:

get a graduation out fit. U know, the robe. Then just add a hood that is made of the same material.

see, I have my mom's grad. outfit and I decided to use it. I just need a hood.

    what u ya think?

Well, the two issues that jump out at me are:
    1. The fabric is too thin and shiny.
    2. The cut of a graduation robe (at least mine was like this) isn't right. They are too short, and they have that funky shoulder block thing going on; too many seams. A Jedi robe should be a simpler/smoother line, and should be long.

But it all depends on the level of accuracy you want to achieve. If the two problems I listed above don't bother you, go for it!

And hey! Even if it's not the way I would go for a Jedi robe, it's a very creative use for a graduation gown! LOL -- mine has been sitting in my closet collecting dust for the past five years.

Graduation robes aren't exactly cheap either, but that's not a problem since you have one. Often times they are too short, too. A Jedi robe comes within a few inches of the ground and somtimes it touches. It would be much easier and cheaper to make your own, and it would look better. Just run to Wal-Mart and pick up 10+ yards of fabric and that Simplicity pattern everyone is talking about around here. This time of year you should be able to find some good Jedi robe fabric on the clearance rack for 1-2 dollars per yard.

Try going to thrift stores to find graduation robes. Robes from 30 or 40 years ago were made of much thicker stuff (none of this acetate junk they use today) and were typically almost floor length, if not fully. Another thing to look for would be old monastic brother's raiments. It might sound a bit odd, but they're not as hard to come by as you'd think. :)

yea the robe that i had to use for my grad was crap. it so did not work to keep my lightsabre from falling out when we had to walk the school one last time.( boring crap) i am just glad i was able to get it under my robe again before any of the staff saw. 8-} it was great that me and my friends were able to duel on the front steps of our school though. it looked cool with blue gowns flowing i nthe wind with sabres clashing.

BTW, Bachelors robes tend to be shorter, cheaper and of a different design than Master's or Doctoral gowns. you could take a look at those too.
