Let see how and when sw characters practiced their oratory skills.

Naster Vandar gave a nice speech at Lehon, after Malaks defeat.
The Exile possibly gave a nice speech at Khoonda, for the militia.
    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Alto_Stratus
Alto Stratus gave speeches for their troops.

I always thought that the speech given by Leia about the evacuation from Hoth in ESB was pretty cool, but mostly because of how Carrie Fisher described it later.

She said she looked over the script and had absolutely no idea of what any of it was even supposed to mean, so she wasn't sure if she'd deliver it right or something. When she finished the cast/extras all cheered and clapped because she nailed it perfectly.

Queer topic . . . but interesting. Antilles gave lots of little motivational talks during the Isard war. Spaar activated Channel Zero to give his. Organa Solo's Senate speech in Tyrant's Test.

There's when Mace 'inducts' Nick Rostu as a Major in Shatterpoint

Leia also makes an impressive speech in Tyrant's test, but I can't find it anywhere

Yeah, the Senate speech in Tyrant's Test was pretty good, especially as it had most of the Senate give Leia a standing ovation. And yeah, the X-wing books had lots of speeches, and heh, I still vaguely remember the Antilles three-step (or was it four-step?) speech. And I thought Leia's speech during the Fall of Coruscant was also hopeful, its just unfortunate that it didn't do anything, but that's not Leia's fault, the situation was already hopeless. A nice speech sometimes helps a story, just too bad there haven't been many great moments recently for a speech.

I think Leia's Star by Star speech where she speaks out to the galaxy during the evacuation of Coruscant...

...oh and Emperor Palpatine's one in ROTS where he pronounces the creation of a new Galactic Empire for a "safe and secure society"

Not a speech, but still a classic:

    excerpted from Imperial holo-posters:

    Citizens:

    Do not be fooled.
You have heard accusations from REBELS.
Accusations of ?atrocities?, of war crimes.
They create these to deceive you.
    These are lies.
Why would they lie to you unless they were desperate, unable to achieve victory?

THE EMPIRE IS VICTORIOUS ON ALL FRONTS!

    REBELS?

The only ATROCITIES are theirs, as they destroy order and peace.

    They began this WAR.
    They are TERRORISTS.
    They are CRIMINALS.
    They are MURDERERS.

Trust your leaders. We defend you from those who would replace the New Order with anarchy and economic misery.

    Support Your Empire.

THE EMPIRE IS VICTORIOUS ON ALL FRONTS!

    SUPPORT THE EMPIRE.

Enlist in the military, donate goods, inform on suspects ? today!

Don?t suspect them. INFORM ON THEM!

THE EMPIRE IS VICTORIOUS ON ALL FRONTS![hr][/blockquote]

Daala's latest one coming from the Palpatine School of Oratory. ;)

I rather like it actually. Something you want to repeat aloud.

Leia's in Star by Star was pretty powerful.

Pellaeon also has a bit of a gift for oratory. Most of his speeches, be they chastising the Moffs or berating inferior Yuuzhan Vong commanders, have been memorable.

    "Loyal subjects,

These are dangerous times. Our grand Empire of united star systems now faces a threat that could destroy us if action is not taken quickly.

As always, we shall act quickly.

The rebellion against the Emperor's fair and just rule has flared into a flame greater than we anticipated. It threatens to become a civil war, and as such we have declared it an emergency situation.

To better protect our citizens and our member worlds, the Emperor has superseded and suspended the Imperial Senate for the duration of this emergency. The Moffs and Grand Moffs will now have direct control of their systems until such time as the danger has passed.

We are sure you shall all do everything in your power to assist us during this time of crisis."

An awesome speech, to be sure. I've always been a fan of this one and the speech Borsk Fey'lya gave when he threw his full support behind the Jedi. I'm sure some people will say it was too little, too late, but it really got to me.

I like the Exile's speech at his/her trial before the council, about why he/she went to the Mandalorian War.

They were more like stories than speeches, but everything Jolee Bindo says should be nominated.

Well, the "The Empire will Always Strike Back," speech goes without saying as one of the best. So does Ganner Rhysode's last stand speech. *nods*

I claim this threshold for my own. Bring on your thousands, one at a time or all in a rush. I don't give a damn. None shall pass.
That still gives me chills. The whole sequence does, every time I read it.

Not sure if it's a speech per se, but this, from Ars Dangor, is brilliant:

Also, Sair Yonka made some nice speeches in The Bacta War, though I don't feel like typing them up right now. There are partial versions of them on his and Ysanne Isard's Wook pages.

Ganner's last speech and stand should go down in SW history as the best thing anyone has ever said just before they die.

You're right, it does give one the chills.

I would add another, more recent speech that was very moving.

"This is the Galactic Alliance cruiser Indomitable. Captain Jaius Yorub commanding. Though battles have been lost, the Alliance still lives. We have not surrendered, we do not concede the stars. We will win back our birthright. Freedom."

I remember getting chills when I read those line in Legacy #21. Not only were they moving words, but in many ways those words were a nod to fans of democracy in Star Wars that even in 137 ABY people are willing to fight and die for galactic freedom.

And yet another example of why John Ostrander is the master. :)
