Greed causes Hillary Duff and Disney to part ways

Hillary Duff, star of Disney's Lizzie McGuire, parted ways with Disney at the peak of her career. Why? Money.

The apparently ridiculously greedy Duffs wanted $100,000 dollars per episode for a proposed new series on ABC that would feature the high school life of Lizzie McGuire. Duff's current show on Disney Channel, Lizzie McGuire, earns her $15,000 per episode. As you can see, she was making quite a jump in demands.

Disney, not wanting to lose their biggest sensation, offered her $35,000 dollars per episode, which the actress refused as being "insultingly low".

Note that Disney offered her more than HALF of what she currently earns! The greedy succubus!

But it doesn't end there...

Though Duff earned $1 million from her first film, she wanted $5 million for the proposed sequel. She and her attornies argued that $5 million was on par with what Frankie Muniz was being offered for the Agent Cody Banks sequel.
Disney agreed to give her a $4 million advance against 4% of the studio's gross receipts on the film. Disney also offered to give her a $500,000 bonus if the first movie grossed at least $50 million at the box office.

Duff's representatives, however, demanded that Duff be given the $500,000 regardless of the film's performance.

Frustrated with the ludicrous demands, Disney ended negotiations and reluctantly broke ties with Duff. I can't blame them.

What the heck was Duff thinking? Disney has been hurting from the poor economy, and she's asking for numbers out from left field? I think Disney was being very, very generous here, and Duff was being insanely greedy.

However, this won't be the last we see of Duff. Though Disney created her fame, she's now a teen sensation, recieving offers from a number of studios and networks, such as FOX and Warner Bros.

 

If only AOTE were still here today.

 

In related news, Attack_of_the_Ewoks sold all his Disney stock in disgust.


Investors panicked at the sight of this quick outburst of selling and tried to get out of the market as well.

World financial markets crashed overnight. Rioting and looting enused.

The United States alone may be facing the worst depression since 1929.

And Hillary Duff is currently the biggest thing Disney has going. She's probably making them all sorts of money right now and while some of those demands are pretty high, I seriously doubt it's her that's making them. More like greedy parents and agents. Remember Macauly Culkin?

I think you people are missing the big picture.

Disney is a family oriented company, now that Hillary is on her own, she is now free to do teen-related high-school-type movies dressed like a common street whore.

I can't see a downside to this development.

$100,000 per episode of that crap disney show and $5 Million for a cheap James Bond rip off sequel? That's crazy talk. I would be happy with 1/2 of what she gets.

I agree with Amazing. The article in today's paper repeatedly used words like Duff's representatives or the Duffs. The only reference to something Hillary actually said was that she was sad about how this went down and that the fans of her series will be in for a disappointment now that the show only has a few unseen episodes left to be aired.
