I'm helping a friend design her Jedi costume, and she's chosen the following colour scheme:
    Outer robe- chocolate brown
Tabards- chocolate brown to match robe
    Tunic- dark forest/olive green
    Under tunic- brown or off-white
    Pants- brown or black.

Would green in a Jedi costume be acceptable by Rebel Legion standards? I'm not talking bright green, but rather a darker, more subdued shade. I've told her about the group, and she thinks it would be cool to have a costume that met the formal standards.

Also, if you're joining the Legion, is it acceptable to have a friend help you make your costume? My green Jedi wannabe friend isn't that good at sewing, but I'm pretty good at Jedi-type stuff. I am willing to help her out. I know that an entire "Store bought" costume is Right Out, but can you have parts of it made for you? Not only is my friend asking me to sew up the majority of her costume because she's not that good at it, but I'm looking at having a custom leatherworker make my belt and pouches for me.

    Updated RL requirments:

    Generic Old Republic Jedi

    Required Items:

    1. Earth tone outer tunic
    2. Earth tone tabards
    3. Earth tone obi/sash
    4. Belt with a wide leather main belt, thinner secondary belt on top of the main belt, and a buckle
    5. Lightsabre (No toy sabres)
    6. Boots taller than the ankle
    7. Pants or skirt

Formal Requirements: In order for a generic Old Republic Jedi costume to be formal, it must contain three of the following elements:

    1. Belt pouches
    2. Large earth-toned outer robe
    3. Inner tunic-- can be a false inner tunic with just a v-neck or turtleneck collar. sleeves optional. no tees
    4. Food pellets
    5. Covertech clip

In other words a dark forest green will probably be acceptable.

Without actually seeing the costume, I'd say that it will probably meet formal standards. If you have all the elements and its easily recognizable as a Jedi then it should not be a problem.

As far as having help, thats not a problem at all! Heck we don't ask for proof that every item is handmade by the actual person. If that was the case I wouldn't be allowed in the Rebel Legion, and I'm an officer!

The store bought rule is to avoid people using unmodified clothing items as the entire basis of the costume (A t-shirt and a white karate gi do not an inner and outer tunic make, to use a Jedi example). Contracting out to have someone make a part of, or even the entire costume, is perfectly fine. Its the end result that matters most.

If I'm not mistaken, a number of Corellian Jedi from the EU have green outfits. We have a number of green Jedi already in the RL, and those are fine.

In regards to who made your costume, the only thing that matters is the final product.

Phasing? Thats Star Trek isn't it? ;)

If you mean phasing out. No. There is a thread specifically about it on the Rebel Legion forums and was brought up here as well. A Jedi costume that is done in blacks is still a formal Jedi costume (assuming you have things like tunics, tabards, belt, etc). Its just not a formal Old Republic Jedi (which was what was listed above), but instead would fall under New Republic.

Its a minor point, mainly because part of the costuming standards changes being discussed is splitting the costume era more directly between prequel and original trilogy costumes.

So for all current and future Rebel Legion Jedi costumes that happen to be "dark" (including myself), its still a formal costume.

This is good news all around:) By the time I'm done, I will have all the optional elements for formal costume, as well as the essentials. I just got some stuff for making food capsules today. They won't look exactly like the pencap variety, but I did find some assorted wooden shapes which are pretty darn close.
My finished costume will contain a black outer robe, and I'm thinking my long undertunic might be black as well. Layered over that will be my outer tunic, which is sleeveless and made of brown linen. I've got two sets of tabards on the go here- one set's made of black leather-look fabric, the other's brown linen like the tunic.
I've also found some likely stuff for my friend's Jedi tunic, I just need her approval. I bought the fabric for her robe today.

Yeah, you caught my typo... I meant phasing out. That's great news, whenever I completely finish my costume, I can't wait to join.

I've got a question for the Rebel Legion members- would my outfit be considered old or new republic Jedi? It's not entirely black, but there are some black parts. I certainly don't plan on packing a red lightsaber, so no dark Jedi here.

As currently being discussed it would be considered New Republic
