This is my second in a planned series of five DC Comics Year One stories, which is all part of a lrager story I'm planning. The first one, currently going, is Batman: Year One.. I plan to lightly tie them together, tough one can only read one and know exactly what's going on. This one revolves around the beginning of Hal Jordan's career as Green Lantern. I hope you like it.

    Dramatis Persona:
    *Abin Sur- Green Lantern
*Carol Ferris- Boss of Hal Jordan, owner of Ferris Aircraft, and a ove interest of Hal Jordan's
*Hal Jordan- Brand new Green Lantern replacing Abin Sur
*Kilowog- Green Lantern and trainer of new lanterns
*Thaal Sinestro- Green Lantern and mentor of Hal Jordan
*Thomas Kalmaku- Mechanic and best friend of Hal's

    Prologue:
As Abin Sur races to bring his prisoner to Oa, je is attacked by the mysterious Legion. Meanwhile, Hal Jordan, an ordinary test pilot, is getting ready to test a brand new space shuttle. He is unaware though, that he is about to be launched into a huge battle for the fate of the universe. Enter Green Lantern: Year One.

    Chapter 1

Hal Jordan entered the complex. The complex itself was set up like a prison, which some days, it could be. It was made of four walls, in the shape of a square, a courtyard in the center. But instead of inmates, the courtyard held all different types of aircrafts.

The complex itself was the major base of operations for the company, Ferris Aircraft. Hal himself was a test pilot. Walking over to the main desk as he did everyday, he picked up a copy of each of the two newspapers stocked here: the Daily Planet and the Gotham Gazette.

The two front page stories in the Gotham Gazette were: Bruce Wayne Returns! and Bat-Man Strikes! Reading it, he had to laugh. A bat-like superhero? Ha? Yah right. There were no such things as superheroes.

The Daily Planet was talking about LuthorCorp and a program that the Daily Planet was doing with the Gotham Gazette where the two papers switched a reporter with each other for a month.

All rubbish. They said they wanted to keep their pilots and mechanics up to date with all the best news. With this trash? Please? He shoved both papers in the trash.

Hal cut through the courtyard and reentered the building on the other side. He slipped into his office and sat down at his desk.

Testing was fun, but paperwork on his last test simulation? Not so much. Most days, he wished for everything but the paper work. Some days though, it got him out of doing things he didn?t want to have to do.

His phone rang. Like this. As he picked it up, a female voice said, ?Come to my office, please. And right away, Hal Jordan!?

The caller didn?t identify herself, but she didn?t need to. Everyone at Ferris Aircraft knew her. Carol Ferris, owner of Ferris Aircraft.

Entering her office, she said, ?Hal, take a seat!?

?In a bad mood or something, Carol??

?Yes, now shut up. As you know, we?ve been going through some? eh? financial problems. So, LuthorCorp has offered to buy us out and keep everyone where they are. As it?s our only hope, I think we must take it. But, as a gesture of good faith, Lex Luthor has given us a small rocket shuttle. I have chosen you to be the test pilot of it.

?I want you to do the test flight in the desert testing zone. I have to leave tomorrow andshall be gone for a month. I am going to stay in Metropolis and work out the details with Mr. Luthor. The shuttle should arrive in two weeks. Okay??

?Of course, I?d love to. But why me??

?I don?t know. I just feel that it?s your destiny. Good luck.?

    ?Thanks.?

After he left the office, he went out to the courtyard to get some air. A good friend of his, who was also his mechanic, approached him.

?What did the boss want?? Thomas Kalmaku asked.

    ?How do you know that??

?News travels fast around here. Everybody?s been talking about it. So what?d she want??

?She was telling me that the company?s been having problems. It might get bought out by LuthorCorp. But she wanted to pilot a space shuttle given to us as a gift by LuthorCorp.?

?Woah? congrats. This could be the most important flight of your career.?

?Yah, I really don?t think it?ll be the most important flight of my career or my life. I don?t think my life will change at all. It?ll never change. My life?s just one of those lives where I do the same thing every day.?

    To be continued?

*Note: The adventures of Carol Ferris in Metropolis will be detailed in my upcoming story- Superman: Year One
