Which film do you guys think had the best action scenes? I've never seen UltraViolet (it looked like it would be the type of movie that would give me the pukes and runs all at once), but I read that the film uses an improved version of Equilibrium's Gun Kata.

I thought Equilibrium was a pretty sweet movie...so, do you guys think that I should give UltraViolet a chance, even if for only the action scenes?

I basically run UV in the background as I was doing other things on my computer and let me tell you - even from the parts that I clicked into to watch, you'd be better off not worrying about this movie. I don't usually give bad reviews, but this one get a big thumbs down from me.

What the heck is "Gun Kata?" And both of those movies were derivative pieces of trash.

Basically an action sequence involving gun skills. A kata is normally like, a sword fighting technique or routine. So I presume a gun kata would be like Trinity jumping out of the building, Uzis a'blazing in Matrix Reloaded.

It's a sequence in the dark with the only light coming from muzzle flashes, and it can cause epileptic seizures.

It's not all it's cracked up to be.

Here's the best video I could find exampling Gun Kata that also included a part of the explanation scene from the film. Excuse the music video format.

I agree.. I equate it to a director needing an action sequence, but not having a choreographer so he says "okay, just shoot blanks in every direction for about 5 minutes...aaaaannnd action!"

This only further confirms my belief that these movies are crap, then.

Equilibrium was awesome. I don't know anything about the other one.

I guess if you like Equilibrium you might enjoy the action in UV. A lot of it is very similar. Varrious "gun kata" sequences.

Yeah, you're right. It was INFREAKINCREDIBLY better than the first Matrix, not just better.

Well certainly better than the matrix sequels.

Kata is a form or pattern in a martial art. Not only containing individual techniques and flows but also moving as if against imaginary opponents.

Gun kata therefore, is simply fighting multiple opponents using a gun.

I detect there is someone in this thread criticising Equilibrium without having seen it.

    Equilibrium was a sucky movie.

    Revolutions > Reloaded > Matrix >>>>>>>>>>> Equilibrium

Um . . . you're confused. As my elementary teacher taught me, Pacman eats the better movie. Thus, it's Revolutions < Reloaded < Matrix <<<<<<<<<<< Equilibrium

    Got that?

Gun Kata sounds stupid unless you consider pitting two masters against each other.

I wasn't entirely impressed until then, and then I enjoyed it immensely.

I wouldn't compare Matrix to Equilibrium. Like comparing X-men to Spiderman to Hulk. Good in their own individual ways.

How can you be a "master" of shooting imaginary bullets at someone? Doesn't that mean you're like, five?

Secondly, I dare anyone to claim Equilibrium was at all good. That movie was nothing but Bradbury's Farenheit strip-mined for its broadest strokes, dumbed-down to the lowest common denominator, glammed up with a bunch of stupid crap--that I've now been informed is called "gun kata--, chopped of any substance, reheated for a bunch of snot-nosed Gen-Xers, and in general an attempt to jam a circularly plotted action film through the sqaure peg of one of the century's more thoughtful dystopian tales.

I'd rather swim in a pool of my own vomit than watch that thing again.
