San Fran, CA HAPPY ANNIVERSARY STAR WARS!

To all of who remember (and to all of you who were there), today marks the 27th anniversary of a little film called "Star Wars" took the world by storm. Thank you George for making a timeless epic adventure for not only myself, but for many generations to come!

Happy birthday, ROTJ! I remember going to see you that first night...had to see it in 70 MM...and how we swapped trivia while waiting in line.

I think I saw it once a week for next year or so. It played for 54 weeks at the local theater in Hayward.

I was under the impression that ANH came out on May 15, 1977, and ESB May 20, 1980.

Well, anywho, happy anniversary, Star Wars!

 

If only I was born a few years earlier...I could then go dancing in clubs and would have seen the original star wars nuts...

Wooo hoo! Yanno..we should have celebrated the release! I say, we should have a picnic! Gives me an excuse to hang out with you guys! I don't get to see you all enough!

 

Actually Empire came out on May 21st 1980 and you call yourself a fanatic...

 

Okay, here's the breakdown:

Episode I: May 19, 1999
Episode II: May 16, 2002
Episode III: May 19, 2005 (tentative)
Episode IV: May 25, 1977
Episode V: May 21, 1980
Episode VI: May 25, 1983

Originally, the films were scheduled to open the Wednesday before Memorial Day, which the OT did. However, the prequels have not done that. Otherwise, Episode II would have come out on 5/22/2002 (befittingly), and Episode III would have come out 5/25/2005... the same day as the original! That would've been perfect, but alas!

Just found out that today marks the 10,000th day of Star Wars! That is, since it first arrived to the world on May 25, 1977. May the Force be with us, always!

 

Actually, today is the 25th Anniversary (and only) showing of the "beloved" (gulp) Star Wars Holiday Special, or as I like to call it, the "Debut Of Boba Fett Holiday Special". Also, it was the first time I saw a commercial for the first-ever SW action figures. Remember, no one knew how popular SW would be, so it took a whole year to get toys ready. Believe it or not, in the credits, you'll notice the name of Stan Winston, future Oscar winner for films like "T2" and "Jurassic Park". But here, his career high was Lumpy, Chewie's son. Also, it's the first glimpse of Kashyyyk, the Wookiee planet. Let's see if Ep. III pays tribute to that.
