Here it is, folks: The book to be released on June 21, 2003, in U.S., Britain, Canada and Australia,, the book is 38 chapters long, and over one-third longer than Goblet of Fire - with quick math that's close to 1,000 pages. That's all of Lord of the Rings. Anyway, here you go:

NEW YORK, NEW YORK: LONDON, ENGLAND: January 15, 2003 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by J.K. Rowling, the fifth in the bestselling series has been scheduled for release on Saturday, June 21, 2003 in the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia, it was announced today by Scholastic and Bloomsbury publishers. The companies also announced that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is over a third longer than J.K. Rowling's extraordinary previous book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In making the joint announcement, Barbara Marcus, President of Scholastic Children's Books in the United States, and Nigel Newton, Chief Executive of Bloomsbury Publishing in Britain said: "We are thrilled to announce the publication date. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is absolutely superb and will delight all J.K. Rowling's fans. She has written a brilliant and utterly compelling new adventure, which begins with the words:"

The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.....The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four.

"Later in the novel, J.K.Rowling writes:"

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is over 255,000 words compared to over l9l,000 words in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The new book is 38 chapters long, one more than Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

 

i'm hanging for the new book, but i also have to see the new movie, haven't seen it yet.

How the hell am I supposed to wait until June for this?:

Funnily enough, someone here at work said almost exactly the same thing.

But one has to wonder what he'll say? Rembering of course, this is pure speculation and I want it to stay that way - NO MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD!

Obviously it would have to be something about his connection to Voldemort, but what? ?

 

I'm guessing its something to do with the Order of Pheonix....

 

Do they exist already, though, or are they created for this purpose? If it's the latter, then he couldn't have told Harry five years ago, since they didn't exist then. Which would mean that line didn't make sense.

 

maybe harry is related to voldie somehow???? as in blood related, uncle or grandfather or something??? its possible

Or maybe one of his parents was a Death Eater or something?

i'm only speculating, but i'd say old voldie is related to harrys dad, since harrys mum was a muggle.

 

Leaks and stuff - now that the book is finished, everyone who handles it is going to be leaking things.

And yeah...my vote either goes to that or one of his parents being a Voldemort lacky.

Unless it's something to do with Harry and Godric Gryffindor's sword from Chamber of Secrets. Maybe Harry's related to Gryffindor?

 

And heres me thinking that the order of the Phoenix was some secret order and harrys dad was a secret agent...

Maybe Harry is the heir of something really spiffy.

Or maybe Dumbledore just wants a holiday and tells harry that voldemort is temporarily taking over the school until he gets back

how did harry's parents get all the money that they left him???

 

I always figured they might have had some from James' parents? They might have been rich?

 

it hasn't been explained in the first 4 books right? so maybe thats what dumbledore wants to tell harry?

News on the Dumbledore front, Ian McKellar and Christopher Lee have both rejected the role, Sir Richard Attenborough, Anthony Hopkins and Danny Devito have all expressed interest in the role.

 

Are you sure they refused? Last I heard, at least one of them hadn't even been approached?

At any rate, I'd love to see Sean Connery do it.

 

According to Empire Magazine both have been quoted as saying "they have been approached and rejected the offer"
I don't think sean connery could pull it off, Danny Devito would be just terrible, Sir Richard Attenborough is a hipocrite, he said he would never set foot in front of a camera again. Anthony Hopkins may be able to pull it off, but i just can't see him in the role. Who else does that leave? Robin Williams - no thanks, Sam Neil i doubt it, Robert Deniro " harry, you talken to me"
Michael Caine? egads no.

Actually Out of that list, the only two that could do it would be hopkins or williams, but thats my opinion, and i bet some of you will argue.

 

I beg to differ. While I know that he would never take the role, I think that Sean Connery could pull it off perfectly. He's a talented actor, but he also has that terrific charisma that Dumbledore in the books is so famous for.

Either way, I'm REALLY psyched about OotP - I cannot WAIT to see what she has planned for Harry this time.
