"I never thought to see you here. You've got nerve, you know!"

James Potter paced the ground he walked on inside his backyard in Godric's Hollow. The house loomed with the lights off and he was most thankful that his wife was finally asleep. They had a scare with the baby. Lily had dropped to the floor in such great pain they both thought the baby would be gone. She was only six months along and it had been so greatly frightening.

The healers at Saint Mungo's ordered bed rest, and Lily and himself decided together it would be best they both listened to Albus, and stayed out of the war for as long as possible while they waited out the rest of the pregnancy.

It had been what she read in the muggle paper that had set off her pains. The hospital had called it false labor, but James knew it had been set off from what she had read.

One of their kind had set fire to her uncle and aunt's house, killing their youngest child, Lily's cousin, Augustine. Lily had called her the most delightful little girl with bright red hair.

It had been Death Eaters having their so-called fun. Taking an innocent life in the process, and then not caring because it wasn't one of their kind. How could they not get involved again? Lily would demand they return to Grimmauld Place until those responsible were found.

James was thankful she slept as it would put off another difficult conversation until morning. Also, it would greatly upset his wife if she could see who had decided to pay them a late night visit. It had been almost six years since James himself had seen this
man. They had been boys then. Enemies in childhood. It was a time James best fought to forget.

With years passing, going to university, and going on to marry Lily, James truly believed he would never see this man again. This man had been in love with the woman who had eventually become his own wife for as long as James could remember
knowing him. He was grateful he never remained apart of Lily's life after leaving Hogwarts. Not because of the challenge for her affection he would pose if she ever found out his feelings, the fear was born from something much greater.

When you looked at this man now, he had a way of drawing people to him. It was an unseen magic he worked with Lily in their childhood it seemed, and it would be most dangerous to her now. Gone was the innocent boy who Lily had loved like family
with her entire heart, and what was left was a dangerous man who cared for nothing, and was not above using anyone for the gain of himself and his new friends. He would use Lily's love for the boy he once had been for gain of the man he was now. It was something James would not ever allow to happen.

"I know what happened. I wanted to know if she was..."

"If she was what, Snape? Still alive?" James snapped. "Lily's fine, now! Her family is another story though!" James wanted to hit this man, and he wanted to do much worse to him. His friends caused his dear wife, and her family, an unimaginable suffering that would never be fully healed. Could he not understand that? Could he feel nothing anymore? "A family tonight lost a six-year-old little girl that will never be returned to them. Lily herself nearly lost our baby because she had been so greatly upset at what she had seen in that bloody trash muggle paper she reads. You know what she seen, Snape?" James shouted.

Snape stepped back from the man. He wanted nothing of his anger. He simply wanted to know if she was still safe. She was the only person that ever mattered to him. More than his own family.

"She saw your face in a picture of their burning house!" James roared. "Do you hav
