Has it always been cool for 21 year old women to hit on 16 year old boys?

... or did that (thankfully) shift sometime in the last 15 years?

See, I was watching an episode of Doogie Howser where this 21 year old Laker Girl (!) asks Doogie on a date, and then invites him to sleep with her. I mean, I could see why a 16 year old boy would be interested in a Laker Girl, but the other way around? When she meets him, she even says "Dr. Douglas Howser, 16" and gives him the eye

Whatever happened to, "You're adorable, kid. I have a cousin your age if you'd like to meet her "?

Was this just something that people in the 90s thought was cool until crack became a little less popular? Or am I right in thinking this is just eternally creepy?

That scenario is pretty icky. However, 'cougarism' has grown to be much popular with 30 year old women dating men in their young 20s and sometimes late teens

 

I don't see what's so shocking. Guys date chicks five to seven years younger than them. That's socially acceptable. I don't see why it's wrong/weird if it's the other way around.

If she's 21 and legally an adult and he's 16 and legally a minor, there's a bit of a "problem." I'm sure you can figure it out.

 

Okay, actually I think maybe the more creepy episode was the one where the late 30-something lady wanted to use Doogie's genetic material for artificial insemination

A few 30-somethings have flirted with/blatantly hit on me-- like, what the hell? Didn't happen when I was 16, though. I'm pretty sure they were crazy, so that made it more disconcerting. "You're old enough to be my mother if you got pregnant at 14" drove the less crazy ones away and got me kicked a couple times. I can imagine those types going after teenagers!!! Better watch the schoolyards.

 

Well it does depend on the state some states have ages of consent as low as 16 in the states and 14 in Canada.

 

Yes, but I think you see my point. It's not the amount of years between them, it's the "divide" in certain jurisdictions regarding the rights and protections that are afforded minors of both sexes.

 

Sorry. My response was regarding MissAmadala2's post, who thought it was shocking that a 30-year-old was dating a 20-some-year-old. It was not in response to the scenario in the OP.

 

I don't think there is anything wrong with that infact my sister is 30 and dating a 22 year old, just pointing out a theme I've seen a lot more of.

But there is a difference between that and the original post. There is much more of a difference between a 21 year old female and a 16 year old male than there would with a ten year difference between people who are in their 20s and 30s.

See last Friday I was watching Dr. Horrible with some friends and I made an offhand remark about Doogie Howser... they hadn't even heard of it (except the one who's pre-med ). Naturally, I was appalled. And began feeling nostalgic, so I looked for it online.

And it turns out the entire series is on Hulu

So now I'm in the second season. This is what happens when you don't have a job.
