How would you react if a character that was both a jedi and sith was introduced? I'm not talking about a character that utilizes the skills and teachings of both but rather a character that has multiple personalities. A sort of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type of deal where unbeknownst to the Jedi personality his darker personality tries to destroy the light side and vice versa.

Essentially a character like Suikotsu from Inuyasha. Also how do you think some Jedi such as Yoda, and Luke Skywalker would react to such a person who is constantly at war with himself and has no idea which is the true personality?

Multiple personality characters seem to be rare in Star Wars - though there is an alien race - the Thakwaash, that comes with them as a normal trait.

Taking EU into account - the Revan incarnation in The Old Republic identifies himself as "both Jedi and Sith," but I honestly think that ToR butchered a great character like that

However, aside from personality disorders, I don't really think that's possible. It would be somewhat like being Catholic and atheist at the same time

Not in the films and TCW. As far as Lucas has been concerned, you're one or the other.

The Jed'aii were balancing between light and dark, tapping into both sides when necessary, so I guess they're technically both.
Unless you mean Sith as in the entire lifestyle, egotism etc, not just a dark side user.

I think a character like Traya comes closest.

The closest character I can think of whom fits this description was from the comic Dark Journey in Star Wars Tales. This story featured a Jedi, Vydel Dir Nul, whom was both a Jedi and a Dark sider/serial killer called Kardem. After she murdered people, she would forget that she was the perpetrator and would continue her quest to find "Kardem".

I think it would be more like being a catholic and a modern satanist instead of atheist. Modern satanism is all about egoism and furthering yourself in life, among other things.

Shadow Trooper: The drawing style and colouring of 'Dark Journey' really added to the story. One of the few examples, apart from Dark Empire, I can think of in which a special atmosphere is created by the art (at least in SW comics).

The closest to being in between Jedi and Sith that I remember is Haazen from the KOTOR comics.

Daegen Lok. He was a Je'daii, but his arrogance and lust for power (and proto-Sith abilities) definitely make him both in my book. He's the first character with Sithy abilities I've ever really liked and I think the mixture worked.

At the same time? I would say no but there are possible some people who have/could say that they are both but they would be seen as deluded at best by jedi/sith that meet them.

Which would only prove how judgmental both Orders are and how narrow in understanding.

Has no one mentioned the Children of the Emperor, specifically Syo Bakarn? Jedi with an inactive (later active) second personality as a sith in service to the sith emperor? There were also jedi and sith that knowingly went undercover, successfully building a second life as a member of their enemy's order.

As has been mentioned Revan I believe and maybe Cade Skywalker though I believe he just didn't care either way and saw the force as a tool.

In terms of a Jekyll/Hyde type thing, the closest we get is Revan in TOR, specifically Shadow of Revan.

Would the Sith judge so? Palpatine does not speak of rejecting Jedi dogma, or what could be dubiously termed the light side, in entirety, only of embracing a larger view of the Force. I actually think the Sith have consistently demonstrated greater tolerance of other teachings and Force traditions than the Jedi.

So do I. What proves both Orders are narrow of understanding is the pointless warring between them.

Maybe the closest thing to both was the Order in Dawn of the Jedi. They sought a perfect balance between the dark and the light. Some of them even delved into alchemy, something modern Jedi would be appalled at.

While definitely a crazy bad guy in TOR, Revan never returned to being Sith after his initial redemption. It's not a monicker you can give to just any dark sider.

Very true. That's why I have much more respect for the Sith of the Old Sith Empire. Even if their inaction against the Jedi had as much to do with ignorance of their existence than deliberate intent, before the Jedi+Republic genocide of the Sith people that prompted their milennia-long quest for revenge, the Sith seemed quite content to unlock the mysteries of the Force and be well on their merry way to apotheosis.

The justly named Golden Age of the Sith.
