Specifically R2-D2, who lights up and makes sounds. He has an obvious battery door on the back, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to open it. Can anybody help?

Would you have any further details as to which specific R2 you're talking about?

And maybe a pic of the door area?

    It is this figure:

I have a picture of the battery compartment, but the forum won't let me upload a photo, only paste an image url. Thank you for the PDF instructions @firesaber, it's very similar, except mine doesn't have a screw. And I can't tell which way is up.

You need to have your photo hosted somewhere online, then you can post a URL to it.

Only place I can see that might have screws are the two indentations either side of the flap. If you tip the figure and look up those indentations are there screws at the end? If not, have you tried gently lifting that tab with a screwdriver blade? Maybe it just pops up. I have clocks that do that for battery replacement.

Well, I did a bit of digging around after using Google to ID what R2 that was. If it's the Movie Heroes one and you believe this video on YouTube, the batteries can't be replaced without taking the figure apart. However, the video is a tutorial on doing that. You might or might not want to try it depending on how good you are with tools and how fond you are of R2.

I don't know much about figures admittedly but that sounds like a huge design flaw.

Well I watched the video, and that is something I would not want to attempt, seeing as it involves buying and taking apart another R2, besides my lack of time and know-how in this area. But thanks anyway guys. It's a real shame because the sounds on this one were really good and there were so many of them, and the light also was in sync with it.
