Which is worse....hate or indifference? I've been mulling this over for a few days and still can't come to a conclusion. Any thoughts?

It seems you are indifferent on the two. Don't you hate that?

Indifference. There's little worse than apathy.

Hate can lead to violence more than indifference. I'd say hate is worse.

Indifference. A heart of stone is one of the worst things in the world.

Actually depends on the situation. Indifference itself won't cause nearly as much damage as hate. But indifference to hate might be worse.

There's a line in Bookdock Saints that says something to the effect of "The greater sin is not the sins of evil men, but the indefference of good men." Or something. Can't remember the exact quote.

It depends on the indifference. If you are indifferent to something rather than hating it then it is a good thing. Example? There are some very annoying people who I'm indifferent to. If it weren't for my indifference I would hate their guts. On the other hand indiffence to something you should care about is a horrible thing.

People keep saying that indifference leads to less violence than hate. I disagree. If you hate someone you at least recognize that person as a person. If you're indifferent that person doesn't matter to you at all. I think it would be easier to be spurred into violence against others if I was indifferent to them than if I hated them. With hatred there's at least some measure of respect and recognition.

"Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."

    indifference is much worse IMO

That thought seems to be winning in all the thinking I've been doing. With hate there is at least some emotion, perhaps leading to action, the outcome being good or bad. But with indifference there's a void, almost a vacuum.

On a side note, which would you rather someone feel towards you....hate or indifference?

    Exactly.

Damn you, Mastadge, you always manage to express my thoughts much better than I could myself... :p

I think it would be easier to be spurred into violence against others if I was indifferent to them than if I hated them.

But if you don't care about something, why would it spur you to violence?

With hatred there's at least some measure of respect and recognition.

I'd have to disagree with hate leading to any type of respect and as far as recognition, wouldn't that be what might make one more inclined to violence as opposed to not mattering.

I would still rather walk through a crowd of people indifferent to me than than a crowd that hates me.

    Hate is worse.

Hate is a negative feeling towards somebody. Indifference simply is the lack of a feeling for somebody.

    no prob

--as for those that say that hate is more powerful that indifference--let me tell you a quick story about 2 vietnam vets--

    soldier 1--
his battle buddy got killed by north vietnamese, so he decides to conduct night raids by himself and every night he comes back with a head of the enemy--this to me is hate--solider 1 feelings are hurt and he wants to take it out on the enemy--ie its personal

    soldier 2--
he wants to survive by any means necessary--he is on a mission and stumbles across a village...he notices he is hungry, so instead of eating his yummy c-rats he kills everyone in the small village and eats their warm cooked food while their dead or dying bodies are in the immediate area.--to me this is indifference

I'd prefer someone hating me than being indifferent.
