Hayden Christensen set to quit acting! :(

I can see him quitting eventually, but not abruptly. Probably in the next 2-3 years, if he decides to go through with it. He's currently signed on to two movies, one of which is currently filming in Italy called Decameron, and the other is Wisdom and Hindsight where he gets to team up with SLJ again. Still, it doesn't surprise me that he's going. He always seems uncomfortable during interviews, like he isn't very fond of the limelight. Not to mention that he had a scholarship to...Harvard, I think?

I think Natalie Portman eventually plans on leaving, too...

 

I think he is right! Hollywood is hell. Save your live Hayden, make something different. You have played in two of the 6 best movies ever. You have a monument. Now get a 'real' job! And live a good and quiet life.

This is so cool. This only shows us that he is not like so many other teenactors. He really worries about his life, he does not want to sell himself!

Actually, all use of his likeness as Anakin is beyond his control. He signed over that right to Lucasfilm long ago.

Seriously though, that's probably a big part of his disallusionment right there. When he constantly sees his face plastered all over the TV screen, posters, action figures, cardboard stand-ups, books, trading cards, and video games, he may very well be wishing he had gone for something a little lower-key. Sure, he made a crapload of money, but the prospect of spending the rest of his life like this may not be very appealing.

If and when he does retire from acting and take up architecture, I'm sure it will take approximately 1.2 seconds for people to start up with the Mark Hamill comparisons and how Hayden's career is over and he's washed up. Which is BS in either case. If Hamill is happier performing on Broadway, doing cartoon voice-overs, and writing comic books than being a big-screen movie star, then what is wrong with that? And if Hayden would rather be an architect than a movie star, then there is nothing wrong with that; an architect is not a lesser career than being a movie star. I have the utmost respect for someone who decides to pursue something that they enjoy and that is meaningful to them, rather than taking the easy route and continuing to sign their name to big film productions because it makes them vast quantities of cash.

 

If he quits acting, that's too bad; I think he has a lot of talent. However, I can see why he'd want to. I wish him well.

I consider my choice of profession a 'real' job though... (A job that comes all at once or rarely at all, but still a job.)

Although I like my definition of acting...

Acting - A way to achieve a profession that you have no patience or balls to pursue. (too much of a coward for war? audition for a war film. Too long to pursue the career of a surgeon? Play one in a medical series. Unable to traverse the stars as a galactic hero? Become an actor. Want to make out with the girl of your dreams? Do it in 50 takes on set, although that comes with a price, if one knows what I mean... *cough* guys *cough*)

I'd be surprised if he made more than half a mil each for Ep2 and 3.

Oh, if thats the case, I feel sorry for him.. gee only about 500k at the least... Of course, if Mike Myers can make about 1 million for Wayne's World, Hayden Christensen sure got a lot more.

Guys, it's a great negotiating ploy. At this particular moment in time, Hayden's the hottest young actor in the business and everyone's gonna want him for their movies. It's a great tactic to make everyone want you even more to say you're leaving the business. His agent probably recommended it to him.

Just a few weeks ago I read Hayden said he was hoping his ROTS success would give him a bigger choice of better roles.

 

Yeah I don't think he made that much for Episode II and III either.

 

the principal actors in the OT made very good money for 3 movies. They didn't have to work again after that. (of course that was 80's money). Hayden made out with these movies. Lucas takes cares of his actors. Rots has already made 179 million. Even if Hayden got 5-11% of that..that's a lot of money, and i'm sure the actors got percentages of the gross over a flat paycheck.

 

I know a lot girls' hearts who are going to be crushed by the sound of this. Not to mention the Orlando Bloom Bashing.

 

Christensen is not the hottest new thing in the buisiness. Regardless of his degree of talent, he is not well regarded. For critics, he will always be Cardboard Dan. But, I like him.

 

If true, I say, good for him. It seems too many actors and actresses can't let go of the lifestyle even though their hearts aren't in their craft anymore. And more often than not, it shows in their "work".

 

I wouldn't blame him either way. Being an actor is good money, but who the hell wants all of that attention.

Oh yes he is. If you don't believe he is, you don't know anything about Hollywood. They love success and the movie is a huge success. Hayden has the lead role in the biggest hit movie so far this year. The world-wide exposure he's getting is just staggering. And he's gotten very good reviews from some major critics. Everybody's gonna want to work with him.
This movie is even a hit in SHANGHAI! When you get that famous - in Hollywood, they love ya baby.

I read about this @ desiringhayden.net. I don't believe it. For one- it started out in a gossip magazine. And two- he just said like a week ago that he can't wait to do more exciting roles, maybe even be a producer of his own films.
If it's true, then I hope he is successful in anything that comes his way.

he can't act to save his life, but thats not really what my main point is going to be, i just have to throw that in.

the big thing is, he came into the world of bigtime Hollywood in one of the BIGGEST movie series' there is. For the rest of his career he will always be "Anikan Skywalker." He was in "Life as a House"...anyone heard of it? Probably not (don't see it its bad). Past that I can't think of anything he's been in. Ewan McGregor has Moulin Rouge, Big Fish and a score of others, he's not stuck as Obi-Wan forever. The same goes for Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee.

10 years from now it'll be *insert movie title here* starring Hayden Christensen. "Whos that?" "Isn't he that kid from star wars?" "maybe, i'm not sure".

Who wants to live with that forever...I sure wouldn't. I think quitting the business is a smart move for him.

Plus he cant act lol

 

1. Star Wars is not Hollywood. He has hardly gotten into the business.

2. He's made about two movies aside from Star Wars, none of which is well known. He will be Anakin Skywalker until he makes another popular movie.

3. He is a good actor.

4. Let people give Life as a House a chance. It's not bad.
