    G'day all

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere in the commentary track (which I haven't listened to in full as of yet) but I found it rather curious that GL decided to change Obi-Wan's Krayt dragon call in ANH. I just cannot think of a reason as to why the heck he would change it; the only thing in the realm of possibility, IMO, is that Krayt dragons feature in ROTS (or at least in another SW-related production) and sound differently to that in the original version of ANH. Could Krayt dragons (or a derivative thereof) be the (or one of) monster of ROTS?

    Discuss.

Very interesting theory! I don't think there will be that much Tatooine in ROTS, though.

I don't expect to see a lot of Tattooine, but it would be nice to set up Obi-Wan's ability to do that trick. I'd rather it not be a krayt dragon, for the simple reason that I'd rather it sounded like Obi-Wan's original noise. The ability to imitate such animals might be interesting to see.

Seeing that scene again, though, with an aging grisly adams making animal sounds, made me think of only one thing.

"This is the sound a doggy makes."
    "Moo!"
    "No!"
"Well that's the sound your mother made last night!"

Alright, let's not let this degenerate any further into oblivion. ;)

Ice to see you, stinrab. :D

I really didn't get that either - I kind of liked the original better, but the new one is good too - a little bit more eerie.

"We would have accepted either bow wow, or ruff ruff"
"HAHAHA, ruff just the way your mother likes it, TREBEK!"

*I dont think this is raunchy or bad in anyway, but edit if need be

Interesting idea, and not so far out there as to be unreasonable. However, if this is the case, it does bring up the question of why couldn't they have simply make the dragon in ROTS sound like Obi-Wan's original call?

Hmmm...maybe we'll see some imported kryat dragons being kept as pets? or possibly being used as creatures of war? There's always a chance of that.

Or maybe we'll see some other creature that sounds like that? It's possible that it's no longer a krayt dragon call.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the change was made because the original audio sounded exactly like a dewback... or something like that.

    :p

I concur. I could never really distinct the Tuskens from the Krayt from the music. It was all just a blurr and before I read the book I never knew Obi Wan made a sound at all.

    good theory.

but arent krayt dragons the species of the huge fossil in ANH ?

how could they then be kept as pets?

I thought that was a skeleton and not a fossil in ANH. In any event, I think that was a dewback skeleton and not a krayt dragon....

    am I wrong?

Na, to big for a Dewback. I think the book said krayt, but I could be wrong about that part.

Pets. Well Jabba kept a Rancor as a pet. Kind of. And he wanted a Krayt as a pet, to pitch it against his other big pet.

Are Krayt dragons specifically native to Tatooine? Maybe they'll be on other planets too.

I doubt that we'll see very much of Tatooine in ROTS. I guess the most likely scenario is that it'll feature briefly near the end of the film, purely to illustrate Obi-Wan delivering baby Luke to the Lars homestead. I'll be surprised if Krayt dragons, or indeed any other 'new' creatures, feature here at all.

The guide to species has them specifically listed as native to Tatooine.
