This is it, i've narrowed it down to these to cameras. I'm gonna list the things that appeal to me, and the things that make me cynical like Funk-e

    canon optura 30
    Positives
    1. REAL 16-9 widescreen mode
    2. Adjustable focus ring

    Negatives
    1. No 3ccd
    2. Doesnt have the consumer satisfaction reports that Panasonic has

    PV-GS120
    Positives
    1. Leica Lens
    2. That 3ccd system baby
    3. Panasonic Consumer satisfaction is great

    Negatives
    1. No focus ring
    2. No REAL 16-9

I originally thought that the Panasonic was the way to go, i figured 3ccd, thats it, over and out.
But going back, Canon advertises something called a Primary Color Divider, which in description does exactly what a 3ccd does, record the RGB channels seperatley.

The Canon is also more expensive, why? Am i just buying Canons name?

Overall, what really entises me is the image quality, i dont care about the low light battles going on, i want it straight up, what has better image quality.

If anyone here owns a PV-GS120, or an Optura 30, I would greatly appreciate if you could post a screengrab.

Well if you want 16:9 footage.. just put the camera where you want it to get the wide picture and crop it AE or something.

You could always put tape over the viewscreen to see what you're gonna get, lol.

I don't know much/anything about Leica.. how's this lens better?

EDIT:things that make me cynical like Funk-e

He's not cynical. You just don't understand him.

well Leica, is very very famous in the Photography world, and most would say they sell the best Film Cameras in the world. So their lenses are also very good.

If any of you saw Euro Trip, the geeky kid had a Leica m 7

I was in the same boat as you about 2 months ago. After researching for about a month I finally decided on the panasonic pvgs-120. Although if you can afford the upgrade the gs400 will give you the true 16:9 you like in one of the cheaper 3ccds made. I eventually went with panasonic because the low light reviews on most of the canon models were very bad. Goodluck with whichever you go with I am sure you will like it.

Catp, could you please take a screenshot for me?

The other thing that throws me off is how the Optura 30 has a 2.2 megapixel, while the Panasonic has a 1.2

Why? It's a camera. You can always return it.

I find your lack of pessimism disturbing.

Nevermind that, because apparently, the "humour" in my one went unnoticed anyway...

Please do not let the mp rating for the stills effect your choice..lol If you want to take pictures buy a digital camera. These are camcorders:) Also camcorderinfo.com has a review for both cameras. In my opiion the panasonic has the best picture quality. If you will never shoot in low light areas then goodluck on the canon. If you "might" get the panasonic.

Definately go with the Panasonic. I was thinking of buying a one a while back. The Colors are SUPERB for a camera that price.

Yeah.. I'd say don't let the still image quality affect your decision. I wasn't really thinkin about that.

The Panasonic rocks. I have the PV-GS70 (discont.) but I thought it was replaced with the GS120. Are you sure there's no man. focus ring? Mine has one. The 3CCD really brings out the colors well. I mean, it just amazing. I filmed a band concert for school a little while ago. The band was wearing all black clothes and performing on black stage. Even in the harsh lighing the GS70 was able to define the singers against the background. Check out this picture here (not DV res). http://students.washington.edu/bgii2000/play.jpg

    Great Camera!
