Hello!! Something terrible has happened! While I was out, my Darth Vader mannequin fell, and the face mask has cracked!! My dog aparently pulled it down...there are teeth marks on the cape!

The mask is cracked from the right side of the nose to the left cheek. It is a fairly significant crack. I do not know how to fix something like this. It is the Don Post Classic Action helmet. If there is anyone out there that would be able to help, PLEASE either send me a PM, or email me. I'd like ot have it fixed as soon as possible!!!

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

You could use some putty and repaint?

I also have a crack in my bucket(TIE pilot) and I was told to use epoxy on it. I'm not quite sure how different the materials between the two helmets are, but if it's anything similar, it should work. Just my suggestion anyway.

Hope you get things patched up real soon. :)

If I were you I would go to my local home depot and pickup some fiberflass resin and mate. put a layer of fiberglass on the inside of the helmet where the crack is. Once that has cured if the crack is visible get some bondo autobody filler and some paint. Fill in the crack with the filler and then sand it smooth. Then just repaint it and it should be as good as new. Just be careful to use very fine grit sand paper.

    That sucks

I had a buddy crack his stormtrooper helmet it was a pretty big crack, but this os how he fixed it to look perfect agian without repainting it, I assume you could do the same.

First he removed all the fans and headliner etc. then he scored the inside where the crack is with 80 grit sandpaper.

He cut shims of plastic from sintra -I guess you could use any plastic- then he pulled the crack even -it has to be perfect, run your finger over the crack untill you cant feel it- and glued the shims inside over the crack with plastic epoxy, just between the crack not in the crack itself.

After it dried, He put some glue over the crack between the shim and let it dry. He tested it after it dried and it was pretty sturdy. He then started to work on the outside of the helmet.

He went to Autozone and got some 3M auto scratch remover for all color paint. He used very little on a rag and applied several coates, slowly the crack faded, and that is hard to do agianst a white surface I'm beting black would vanish completly.

Anyways, after he was done He got some mothers car paint polish, this stuff is harsh and removes the top layer of paint, exactly what was needed. He waxed that spot 5 times at least untill the paint sorta melted into the crack.

Then He polished the entire helmet a few times, You could not tell there was a crack at all.

classic Action came unpainted so I am only guessing your had auto paint on it, if its not painted lucky you :) glue and bondo it then paint, use very very little bondo.

    hope this helps.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info! It has really helped! And yes, my helmet was pre painted, but I took it to a auto body shop to have it done profesionally! It looks amazing!!

The crack goes from the right eye to the left cheek, so it goes from black to slibver to black again. I will have to take it back to the body shop after I fix it to make it Impressive once more!

    Thanks again!!

Good luck with the patch job! My heart just broke when I read your first post in this thread -- it's painful to think about someone's beautiful costume being damaged.
I will send good helmet-fixing vibes your way!

And please let us know how the repair process goes. :)
