I saw Teen Titans Go! To the Movies yesterday, and coming from someone who watched the original iteration and not so much the revamped version, I really quite enjoyed it.

I watched a bit of the show this weekend, just out of curiosity. It’s childish, but it’s pretty funny. Simple fun.

The epic that began with "40%, 40%, 20%" and concluded with "The Night Begins to Shine" 4-parter was a great part of that show, as was the Oregon Trail episode.

The punchline to that bit is amazing, it's actually in this clip package

"The Batman! Batman Returns! Batman Forever!" line in the ads isn't in the movie, my nieces were complaining about that hahahha.

It's funny that Nicholas Cage is voicing Superman in the Teen Titans movie when he was originally going to play Superman in a live action movie.

Another old meets new mashup. Shows how practically anything is helped by a good soundtrack.

The purpose of this movie wasn't to bring back the old show. That's just a condition of resurrecting the old series, by encouraging everyone to see this film. The show itself is popular with its target audience and the movie was the next step in that, just like all other animated films based on an animated series. As to the Challengers of the Unknown, they're an old science fiction space and exploration team from the dawn the Silver Age, co-created by Jack Kirby. The original series ran for 77 original issues, with three reprints topping the series out at 80 issues. There was a revival with issue 81, but ended six issues later. DC published an eight issue mini-series in 1991 and later reappeared in The Adventures Of Superman #508. A new team was created for a late 90's revival, which only ran for eighteen issues and a mini-series in 2004, by Howard Chaykin. The team would also appear in "The New Frontier" mini-series and in the animated adaptation.

I didn't either. At all. He somewhat resembles a middle-aged Marlon Brando in that shot. Before Brando let himself go that is.

Apparently, I was the only person that expected the first trailer of Titans to be dark and gritty, which I'm kind of surprised by considering the promo pics of the characters like Robin and Hawk & Dove were dark and gritty.

So, I found the reactions to the trailer quite bizarre. Perhaps most people didn't see the promo pics or they're use to the cartoon version of the characters. I personally, never really watched the Teen Titans cartoons or read the comic books, so I have didn't have much preconceived notions going into the trailer. The "**** Batman" line didn't bother me because there have been stories where Dick and Bruce have had that emotional fallout and parting of ways; which has be reiterated and referenced in various comics and animated films. And I suspect that Dick won't go by Robin for too long in Titans and will eventually adopt the name "Nightwing" to further separate himself from Batman.

And without actually any real context or seeing the series, I can't say that DC hasn't learned it's lesson from the Snyder-verse. And to me, the problem of the Snyder-verse wasn't that the tone of the films were dark and gritty, but rather were deconstructive of the characters; rather than building them up, it was constantly trying to tear them down; especially with Superman.

Having listen to Geoff Johns comments, I believe the dark tone of the trailer will give way to more lighter shades and possible brightness of the characters, as he noted most of the characters are in a dark place when the series start.

I was so elated when I heard the announcement of Hush. I do wish it's a two part story and it's faithfully adapted like The Dark Knight Returns, as pretty much Batman's entire rogue gallery is involved. I'm not really that excited for Reign of the Supermen or Justice League vs. The Fatal Five. I am interested in Wonder Woman: Bloodlines. My thought this will be an adaptation of Brian Azzarello's New52 run on Wonder Woman, where Diana is revealed to be the daughter of Zeus and therefore her family tree is connected to the Greek Gods and the ultimate villain is "The First Born."

Shazam! looks like a very faithful adaptation of the New52 version of the character, which was introduced as a bonus story in the New52 Justice League comic books. However, I didn't like Billy Batson at all in that version, as he's an unappreciative brat and is strong headed for no real reason. So hopefully, the film we do a better job in making Billy more likable.

Aquaman has a surreal look to it; a 300 kind of look. I heard it has been screened for a very selective few and Jame Wan has definitely added a horror element to it, which comes into the when...
they come to the Mariana Trench.

And as such, this appears to be an adaptation of the New52 Aquaman and the first story arc, which many readers found very satisfying and enjoyed. My hope is that Jame Wan does give the film an adventurous pace and not much expository scenes and dialogue, like most of the films in the Synder-verse. Basically, just make Aquaman a fun adventure.

I don't like the rebranding at all as it just doesn't roll of the tongue, nor does it really convey that it's in reference to the cinematic universe. I would have just preferred something simple as previously used by DC, which is just DC Films.

Agree with the bolded on the Synderverse and with your thoughts on Billy Batson. For me, it’s Zachary Levi’s perf in the trailer that makes those moments work.

Agreed on Aquaman. Visually, it looks fantastic and all I can hope for is an entertaining, fun adventure.

Snyder had a lot of good concepts, but he just couldn't execute the story telling.

Speaking of Zack Snyder, he has given more insight to his films...

ZACK SNYDER WAS GOING TO KILL DICK GRAYSON ROBIN; USE CARRIE KELLEY

The only promo pic of Dick I saw was darkly lit, but heroic looking and non-bloody.

And wasn't that Dove, the pacifist, mauling or killing people in there?

    EDIT: This was the pic...

I've never read any of the Hawk and Dove comic books, so, I can't say for sure that Dove's stance as pacifist means she doesn't get into alley fights and bloody brawls. I would tend to think as a crime fighter, you're going to get into some fights here and there, especially if bullets are being fired at you.

But, knowing how WB/DC been very reactive to online responses, I wouldn't be surprise if the next trailer for Titans is more colorful and have a brighter tone.

I saw the DC subscription streaming service was like $75 for year. I wasn't going to commit to a year, but will probably to a month or so to watch Titans and the other benefits of the service.

Wow, so I actually think Snyder's initial instincts were right on Robin. I think killing Dick and featuring Carrie would have been a solid way to go.

It would have been another controversial creative decision by Snyder to kill of Dick Grayson, as oppose to Jason Todd, to make way for Carrie Kelly in that it would have either eliminated the possibility for Nightwing or have either a Jason Todd or Tim Drake or even a Damian Wayne take on the mantle of Nightwing.

I kind of want to think that Snyder is just trolling fans for the fun of it, which would be awesome if he was. But, I do remember the internet speculating that Jenna Malone would be Robin in Batman v. Superman, which I would have liked to seen.

Here's the motion poster for Aquaman:

I watched the trailer again last night, and I'm somewhat concern the film might be too dense in terms of the scope, characters and subplots with the telling of Arthur Curry's origin, the battle for the throne of Atlantis, Black Manta and some type of treasure hunt quest the leads Arthur and Mera into the desert and other things I have surmised. But man...

The trailer kept having me thinking, "When are Jar Jar and the rest of the Gungans going to show up?"

I'm still hoping Aquaman moves off of its scheduled release date of Dec. 21 because the competition in Bumble Bee, Alita: Battle Angel and Mary Poppins and gets an earlier date.

Poster looks terrible. I wish artists would use the whole space, and stop trying to pack as many ****ing faces as possible in the middle 1/3 of the poster.

    It's been a day.

LOL - I appreciate the gungans references many have mentioned about Aquaman, but I do not expect them to show up - despite some Naboo-like vibes rippling through Atlantis. I did immediately think of Dr. Evil’s request though once I saw the war sharks. :p I am more curious about James Wan’s horror elements coming through and have no issue with the stories being told:

Mera and Arthur seek the trident he needs to challenge Orm, Black Manta will fit in somehow, and the origin story seems pretty direct.

As far as date of release, I will see it whenever I can work it into my schedule. None of the competition interests me.

I hope the plot and pacing of the film is as fluid and flows as well as you describe it. It's just that some directors like to provide alot of exposition in their story telling that slows the pace of the film down. I don't think Wan will have that problem and the story will unfold organically. I'm sure it will, as Aquaman will be a "fish out of water story" so the audience will learn about the world under the sea as Arthur does. However, I doubt Mera will break into song about being part of the surface world.

Killing Grayson would have been a mistake- why cut off the possibility of Nightwing (or reassign the mantle to a different character), a character yet to be fully realized on screen, for no reason? I could see if the last DCU attempt had had a failed Nightwing movie that there'd be an advantage to rebooting with a different take, but off the bat (no pun intended)?

I mean, they killed off Jimmy Olsen randomly, but, well, I think most people would get past having no Jimmy. Getting rid of the original Robin is a bigger step...

I get that it would help highlight other Robins since Grayson/Todd tend to steal the show of every adaptation, but there's way to do that without killing off more of them, heh.

Mera singing[face_laugh] while she gleefully kills anyone who gets in her way.

I doubt Wan will have pacing and plot issues, especially given how literal the fish out of water origin is, and how playful the adventure tone seems to be.

I am curious about Patrick Wilson’s Orm, since he and James have such a great film history. So far, I think Wilson nails the OTT aspects of the role.

    No worries here.
