I really don't mind the alien designs from the video, they seemed okay (except maybe the weird opera Lady with no neck). It was more the other 100 or so aliens in the ST and in the casino who resembled half heads, tiny rats or critters that the creature designer Scanlan is obsessed with that just don't feel like Star Wars (see the costume designer Michael Kaplans reaction on Blue ray then how Rian Johnson responds with i know its out there). I know Jimmy Mac on Rebel Force radio podcast agrees as he was quoted saying "where is all the OT aliens we know and love in the ST"? They couldn't include a few species we grew up with and are included in all the animated shows? This includes Solo as well, as Scanlan's abuse of his non SW designs are out of hand. As for TLJ, I don't mind the Resistance pilot Asty (TFA) or his look alike in TLJ, but can why couldn't we get one Aqualish, Ithorian or Nikto?
I didn’t watch the vid but did anyone else instantly start humming the Cantina Theme? Im in two minds regarding the last post - we wanted more original creations after TFA right? Bearing in mind I agree TLJ wasn’t Star Warsy enough.
I think Mando and TBOBF do a much better job with their creative designs for aliens. They are much more familiar, and the new designs seem more in keeping with the Lucas era aesthetic (in terms of the puppet/mask/prosthetic creature types) . The designs in the ST seemed more over elaborate, but less stylised and belonging to another franchise IMO.
