If coruscant is in the core, tatooine is in the outerrim and Naboo the midrim (?)
Could someone explain this to me, I'm sure there is an explanation and I'm determined not to say plothole

Tatooine isn't in the middle. There wasn't enough fuel to get to Coruscant, so Obi-wan had to find a planet that was close to Naboo and wasn't under Trade Federation control.

Naboo was on the border of the Outer Rim.

Considering Alderaan is described as deep in space in ANH, I don't think George really cares where the EU says things are. :p

I think they overused the concept of a planet being mysterious and less-visited because it was in the Outer Rim.

I know that the map isn't all that important to the movies and probably isn't really Canon, but that is pretty damn cool.

Yeah, it seems the majority of PT planets is in the outer rim: Tatooine, Kamino, Geonosis, Utapau, Mustafar...

..... and where are all a nations or empires battles fought? At the edge of their territories !! Makes sense really. Conflict would ALWAYS be based around those areas far away - so Naboo et al MUST be out on the edge - otherwise there part of predictable safe home turf...oooooh yes...

Where did you get the impression that Tatooine was in between Coruscant and Naboo? TPM? They took a detour. One of the reasons they chose Tatooine in the first place was to avoid being detected by the Trade Federation. They went there because Nute Gunray and the others figured that it wouln't make any sense for them to go there.

I think he's referring to this line:

BEN: A fighter that size couldn't get this deep into space on its own.

Well, it PROBABLY wasn't using Alderaan as a base so that makes it out in the middle of nowhere. Ties didn't have hyperdrives (Right?) so it would have taken some time to get there. ;)

^Yup. Alderaan sounds like it's out in the middle of nowhere with this line.

Of course, earlier on, Tarkin picks it to be blown into rubble because 'Dantooine is too remote for an effective demonstration', so who knows. Maybe Ben's got Alzheimer's. :p

Anything out of a system is deep space, though. For example, if you were to leave the Sol System, you'd be in deep space.

    I agree with Mustafar...

Anywhere between two planets/systems could be considered as 'deep space'. Being a short range fighter, the TIE was thought to be 'deep' into space as it was nowhere near a planet, system or space station (which was proven to be wrong, due to the Death Star ;))

    That's one interpritation I suppose.
The more logical and sensical explination is that there are no Imperial capital ships in the area, so it's odd that a little fighter was there alone.

With no cap ship, and no Imperial millitary base on Alderaan, then that would be "deep space".
