How did Lando get hired by Jabba?

how did lando get hired by jabba in the rescue attempt by luke? was lando not know to the hutts? the empire knew who he was but not a gangster with a lot of connections and boba fett knew him too from besbin and fett was ar jabbas palace too

 

He used a disguise/alias.

 

I always sort of figured that Lando had pre-established identities for different parts
of the galaxy he could slip into and out of at need.

 

Yeah, I don't think it's exactly explained, but I always assume that Lando just signed up. That whole first part of ROTJ doesn't make much sense. What the heak was their plan?

 

Leia, Chewie, and Lando were supposed to sneak Han out. Luke was their back-up plan.

I'm more interested in what Lando managed to get hired to do. He sure was lucky Jabba happened to be hiring. Do you think that if the only openings were, say, in the kitchen, he'd work as Jabba's waiter?

 

The plan was for Lando to get into Jabba's palace and get farmiliar with the routine while keeping an eye on frozen Han. To do this he called on an old Hutt colleague, Quaffug, on the planet Blimph to obtain a letter of recommendation to the Hutt Guardmans Guild, the body that supplied Hutts with their henchmen. Quaffug, however, held a grudge against Lando because he had won a game of chance against the Hutt. Quaffug accused Lando of cheating and order his death. After Lando overcame the group of Bounty Hunters Quaffug sent, he turned the tables and forced Quaffug to give the letter of recommendation. This along with his disguise got him into Jabba's Palace.

I guess you guys forgot that Lando is a con man and scroundrel. Jabba seems to like shady people hanging around him, so Lando played the part and got into Jabba's palace.

 

The story is told in the Bounty Hunters: Scoundrel's Wages comic, which is available in the Star Wars: Bounty Hunters tpb. You should be able to find it on Amazon or in a good comic shop. The book also has stories featuring Aurra Sing, Boba Fett, and Kenix Kil (Kir Kanos). It's a good read!
