Apologies this is my first post. Actually used to have an account during the lead up to Force Awakens but lost the login info.

Anyways, we know from the comic that Palpatine created Anakin....but how did he know that Qui-Gon would find Anakin and bring Anakin back to him? What are the chances of that even happening?

I'm staying away from any spoilers for episode 9...so please no spoilers if any of this is addressed in Rise of Skywalker.

    Thanks!

The comic is only one interpretation of Anakin's conception. In the (Legends) novel Darth Plagueis, Palpatine and his master reach out with the force to 'destabilise' the balance present throughout the galaxy. This dark shift results in the force 'bouncing back' and creating Anakin to compensate, so they only create him inadvertently.

Or he might have been lying about the whole thing in the opera scene. In any case, there's no definitive settlement on whether Palaptine 'created' Anakin, either with help or accidentally.

I personally am not a fan of Palpatine or Plagueis creating Anakin, not in canon or legends.
Despite my problem with midichlorians, I am more okay with the idea that the Force created Anakin in response to the dark side threatening to seek more control of the galaxy.

Canon doesn’t make it clear, but in Legends, Palpatine only learns about Anakin’s existence when he arrives with Qui-Gon’s party on Coruscant. Even then, he doesn’t pay much attention to him until Dooku (a Jedi insider) tells him. Plagueis is also in on this, until Palpatine kills him. However, at this point, Palpatine didn’t intend to replace Darth Maul, seemingly not until he learned of Maul’s defeat.

I imagine Palpatine would have cast Maul into a similar fate as Dooku had he not been defeated by Obi-Wan, given Palpatine’s newfound knowledge of Anakin’s significance.
My source for this is the non-canon Darth Plagueis novel. In canon, it isn’t clear, but that novel implies that the Force (or “midichlorians”) responded to Plagueis’s Sith sorcery by creating Anakin. So Anakin was an unintended consequence of the Sith’s experiments.

I don’t see how this would come into play in TROS, although this may not be the place for that particular aspect of your question.

I might be thinking of a totally different comic, but if that is the one that comes to mind, isn't that scene of Palpatine "creating" Anakin framed as more of a Force vision/nightmare that Vader has at some point? So a clear shoutout to the old EU plot point/theory, but still open to interpretation and not a solid indication that that's exactly what happened

So if we assume that isn't what happened - or even if we assume that something like old EU IS what happened - would Palpatine have even been aware of Anakin's existence, or where in the galaxy he was? I find it unlikely. I rather enjoy the fact that his grand plan throughout the PT is something that gets ****** up multiple times. Not quite everything proceeding as he'd foreseen, but having to constantly make adjustments as unexpected deviations occur

The discovery of Anakin and his potential (along with Maul's "death") was one of those deviations that just happened to work perfectly in his favour, even if it ended up taking longer than he had originally envisioned. Call it the will of the Force or plot convenience, but I love that ****

These have been very helpful. Really appreciate the feedback! I understand the different perspectives now and that there's not an exact answer that's been given.
