My qustion is how did the empire get the AT-AT's on Hoth. How do they get large machines of war from a Star Destroyer in space onto a Planet. They ovbiousily did'nt build them there.

Supposedly. The AT-ATs are carried by huge transports not unlike the Trade Federation Landing Craft from Episode I. We don't see this in the film and the walkers seem to get onto the planet quickly and with great ease. This is something I would love to see in the super special edition. It could build up the Battle of Hoth very nicely.

That's what I think. I mean the TF deployed tanks and troop transports rather quickly with the landers they used so its concievable that the Empire did a similar thing. In the end I'm sure George Lucas decided that it was unessecary to show the actual landers onscreen and easier to just suggest them.

showing them emerging out of landers, the wonderful shot of a Rebel's first glimpse of them (first only a foot, then the rest and several of them ) would have been lessened.

Except if they only showed really big landers, but no AT-ATs. Which would have been boring.

I know it is kinda a stupid question, but thanks for the series answeres. I think seeing the AT-AT's coming out of the landers wwould be sweet.

Visually it would have been pretty cool but it isn't nessecary and that is why I think Lucas never added it.

Remember AOTC... the AT-TE's were flown in and set down by specific gunships built for that. I'm sure it's done the same way but with different ships. Just my 2 cents...

I don't think so if you look at the AT-TE's in AOTC they have kinda hole on the sides AT-AT's do not have anything that lookes like they can be flown down.

EDIT: I don't think so if you look at the AT-TE's in AOTC they have kinda hole on the sides AT-AT's do not have anything that lookes like they can be flown down.

Actually, AT-ATs do have holes in their sides that help lock them into barges.

The AT-AT barge is also non-canon, it's from Force Commander.

In the topic I created a while ago, there was a possiblity that a Star Destroyers could enter an atmosphere and hover above the ground and drop off the AT-AT/ST forces. This would need to be done many miles from the shield as to not be shown on screen. That would fit with the Visionaries images, but with just one Star Destroyer.

Someone have an image of the Incom Titan Barge from Inside the Worlds? That should answer the question easily enough.

I always thought there was some kind of transport for the walkers.

The reason I believe this to be the case is because Vader tells General Veers to land his troops beyond the energy field. He had no choice after Admiral Ozzel came out of hyperspace too close to the Hoth system. The rebels detected them and immediately raised the energy shield. Planetary bombardment was impossible.

I'm sure we can infer that Star Destroyers are capable of landing, as the end of Clones hints at just that however in my opinion there is a specific walker transport.

Acclamators could land, I think even Victory-class SDs could land, but Imperial-class couldn't and definitely not the Excecutor - and Veers and his troops (inlcuding Blizzard Squad's AT-ATs) are from the Executor.

I believe they have landing barges, but I hope they'd look cooler than those from Force Commander :p

    That's irrelevant. It is canon.

Play Rogue squadron II. They show AT-ST's being dropped down in transports by Imperial Shuttles. RSII is, of course, canon :p

I don't remember where I heard this, but a long time ago I was under the impression they were loaded up and stuffed into a kneeling position and launched, not unlike a giant probe droid.

    >>I think seeing the AT-AT's coming out of the landers wwould be sweet.<<

Though it'd be an interesting visual (as we see in Visonaries and Force Commander, among other sources), it wouldn't be as effective dramatically if we see the walkers prior to the macrobinoculars zoomin in on them following the ominous thumping of their feet.

How kick *** would it be if they were inserted from orbit like those Mandalorian Basilisk War Droids from KOTOR I and II? It too bad that it's been established that they land via barges because the Mandalorian way would be way cooler.
